So, if you use the wrong type of oil, it wont damage your engine?DieselPower said:No that would be different types of blood. Different types of oil would be API CJ/4 or SM.
If you cant understand the analogy between oil being the blood of the engine and the engine itself being the heart then i have nothing else to say. It's not hard to see the relation. Type O can be used for all people, type B cannot. Same with engine oils, not all oils are equal. Just a simple analogy. Everything said on this forum doesn't have to dissected.MikePA said:Ditto what DieselPower said. They're types of blood. Type O isn't a better blood than Type B.![]()
Yes, I understand the original analogy, i.e., blood flowing through the circulatory system equates to oil flowing through an engine. It's not real complicated. Nor did I say all oils are equal.saparks10 said:If you cant understand the analogy between oil being the blood of the engine and the engine itself being the heart then i have nothing else to say. Price was never the subject or paying more for oil, or even synthetics. Price does not guarantee quality, never did i say that. You can charge $10/quart for mineral oil, doesn't mean its worth it. The comment was that someone cared not so much about what oil was in their engine, but rather they cared more if their windshield was clean. I simply said i guess i am opposite. I care more about whats in my engine than if my windshield was clean. Never said i cared more because i paid a certain amount of money for the oil. I'm am more concerned with quality, which is usually related to price. Better things usually cost more, usually. The analogy was blown way out of proportion. There are grades of blood. When someone donates blood it has to be tested, for diseases, etc. Some imperfections in the blood are allowed to pass. i.e. if you get a tattoo you are not allowed to donate for atleast one year, but you can at 13 months because the chemicals from the ink are low enough. Now would you want a doc to give you blood with slight imperfections, but still passed the standards, or would you want something better? The analogy was focused on people who think oil is just oil and its all the same. You take care of your heart, so take care of your engine. It should be one of the most important things you care about on your truck. Which is why i said i'm opposite, i care more about whats in my engine than if my windshield is clean. I figured most could see the relation in the analogy without over thinking and trying to dissect it and find something wrong with it. There's nothing wrong with the way others think, just said i thought opposite of what was said.MikePA said:Yes, I understand the original analogy, i.e., blood flowing through the circulatory system equates to oil flowing through an engine. It's your corollary of there being better and worse grades of blood suitable for humans that's flawed as is your implication that people who pay more for oil care more for their engine, "I care more about whats in my engine that whats on the outside.". BTW, I use synthetics, but that doesn't make me more or less caring of my engine than someone who doesn't. The right oil for the right application.
I run schaffers supreme 9000 5w-40 year around in my kubota diesel ZTR,kubota RTV 900,Kioti DK40 se and my 2004 dodge cummins diesel with no problems.I have also have my oil checked by Blackstone labs and the oil anyls.comes back fine.coobie257NH said:So,I put 5/40 synthetic in my tractor this winter,Should I change it back to 15/40 before the weather warms up too much?
