Well a few things are for sure. 4wd is nice, a loader is great, and somebody will tell you to look at Kioti's.
Thanks tractorjackleg! This made me laugh out loud. It's so true! Why is that? No matter what the topic or where the discussion goes, sooner or later someone will always pop in and tell you to "Check out the Kiotis"! ;)

As to the "Why is that" I can think of several things:

1. The poster may well be making an honest attempt to help the op through the same evaluation process he went through, culminating on serious consideration or purchase of a Kioti.

2. The Kioti seems to be well regarded on TBN as to capabilities, servicability, and especially value.

3. So many times advice of other posters, equally convinced as to the value of their brand, revolves around two or three top contenders, to the exclusion of products from other vendors - which are too often cavalierly dismissed.

A few months ago, many posters seemed to always bring up Mahindra, or Deutz, or Massey Ferguson, etc., etc., etc. Nobody seems to be asking why they get brought up or not.

I have no dog in the fight, just a used lawn tractor which was one of several brands I considered, and I considered all the brands I could find locally. I bought mine because I felt it was the best alternative for me and was something I could afford, which I think is the point those who bring up other brands are trying to get the op to consider.

BudInTenn, congrats on the JD 5203. Although some posters dismiss it out of hand, many consider it to be a good performing low maintenance tractor with good value. Use yours safely, please.

Please lighten up a bit. There is no fight here. I certainly didn't mean to offend anyone and I apologize if I did.

I have nothing at all against Kioti products. I'm sure they are fine tractors. I just thought the referenced poster's comment was spot on and very amusing as I've had the exact same observation many times myself.

I've got a much smaller (4200) Deere, w/FEL and 4WD. One thing I've found that if your on turf alot, the front tires will tear the heck out of turf grass if in 4WD. I think you'll luv it, and the FEL utilization is endless!! ~Scotty

I'd go with the John Deere, just because we've had so much success with that brand. Four wheel drive would be nice, but it's really not necessary if you use your common sense. Also, if you're out when it's that soft, you're going to be making some sizable ruts!
