While widening a corner of a field, an old buzz saw appeared!!!

Yep, has a shaft and some sort of provision for a belt. It did have a wooden frame that all but fell apart that could have been sort of a table for saw'n dimension lumber from logs though...

YES. actaually I used them for siding up the carport .
They date back to the early seventies.
Our local newspaper the Marietta Times used to sell these for 10 cents each.
What is interesting is reading the ads as well as the news on them back in that time period .
Some of the business running some of the ads are no longer in operation .
You might say it's history written on the wall.

Looks like what's left of an old 'circle mill'...

There is a sawmill (circle) on my property that had been used in the depression and then again by the CCC...

some of them used tractors for power...others used big belts that connected to the rear wheel of a truck...many had stand alone power

I still find lenghts of feeder chain with dust scoops (paddles) still intact...

This area was once owned by a lumber company at the turn of the century. When they were done with a piece of ground, they would often leave stuff behind including the land the company owned till it came up for sale on the steps of the court house for back taxes. Over the years while clearing ground, gramps had found cross-cuts, old rail road iron, even an old burned out wood stove were there once was a camp or bunk house. This buzz saw is too new for that, the wood frame was still holding it up somewhat. In less it was salvaged by the neighbors earlier generation. I should ask him if he knows anything about it when he returns for hunting season.

That would make a great Halloween prop. Just add the headless horsmen along side of it and wa-la:laughing:
