Whiteish substance in bevel gear/pinion case

Thanks IH. Great info. A couple more questions if you don't mind.
Before I split the track do I need to empty the the track tension jack? How do I make sure there is no compression left in the spring so the idler doesn't shoot or move forward when I split the track, and if it does, what will I need to pull enough track slack back to reconnect it after the seal repair.

The recoil spring will already be against it's stops . Just clean the ram bar of dirt/rust/paint as you probably already did when you fixed the bracket , before releasing the grease so the seal is not damaged by foreign material . You may need to put a block in front of the idler and drive forward with the grease adjuster out to push the idler back . You can also put a large piece of timber between the top of the bucket and against the idler and roll the bucket back or put a piece of solid timber between the sprocket and chain and walk the machine back . All these ways will pull the idler back to allow the chain to become slack .

It may be a good idea to post some photos of the axle oil leak and a couple of shots under the fuel tank as someone on TBN may see something missed and save you some effort .
