who has 80wt gear oil?

My b6100e gear drive wants some gear oil, and it says to use 80 weight gear oil. . So I go looking for straight 80 and I can't find any. I have found straight 90 "green" (it says this right on the container..) but I cannot find 80. I am reluctant to put UDT in it as I can tell that there is gear oil in there and if it isn't broken don't fix it. Is straght 90 GREEN what I want?

Why wouldn't 80W-90 work? It's available everywhere.

80w90 EP is supposed to be bad for wet brakes. The Extreme Pressure additive makes it too slick in there. This can make you press the brake pedal too hard which can cause the brake material to get chipped when it finally does grab. Anybody know for sure?

The bottle I have is from Conoco, and it doesn't say anything about being EP.

I've got a B6100DT and I'm pretty sure I got 80 wt gear oil for it about six months ago at Quality Farm and Fleet. I'll check the bottle when I get home tonight. It was their "house brand" as I recall - "King Lube" or something.

I checked a bunck of suppliers websites, and they all agree. 80w /90 without the ep is a replacemant for 80w. Now, I got no excuse not to change mine. Oh well, there goes my saturday.

Well, I checked my bottle of King Lube from QF&F and it is 80w90 EP not straight 80 like I thought.

Now what's this about wet brakes and pressing on them too hard? Does my 1978 Kubota B6100DT have "wet" brakes?

Bill, looking through the manuals, and asking the mechanics at the John Deere dealer in town, it seems like we have 'dry' brakes, so the ep shouldn't affect us with our B6100DT's.

I would have picked their brains for more info, but being that it's harvest up here, they are busier than usual.

If the brakes are in the transmission housing then don't they have to be wet brakes?

I have the opposite problem.
My rotary cutter gear box calls for EP80W-90 gear oil.
All I can find is 80W-90 gear oil at tractor supply. No mention of EP on the bottle. Tractor supply folks say its the same, but they don't seem to know much about anything.

Is the EP really a big deal or are these interchangable?
