Tractor supply folks are wrong; there is a difference. In general, EP can be used in place of non-EP, but not vice versa.

EP stands for 'extreme pressure' and is specified by some gearbox manufacturers. If they specify EP, that's what it needs. Keep looking, it's around.

Stick to 80 or 90 SAE oils. Don't use EP or oils with additives. Kubota gear boxes often use hydraulic clutches not to mention the hydraulic systems that all tractors use. Thats why oil companies market agricultural oils - These oils such as Shell Agroma MP or Shell Donax TD 80W are simple with few additives to affect the hydraulics etc.
