You just never know what could happen.
Right.
One of the crosses we bear requiring a modicum of courage to live and participate in a modern peaceful society.
You just never know what could happen.
Or they might have taken it from her and shot you both in the head.
I find it ironic that you'd post a story where your mother was mugged and did not have a weapon and went unharmed.
It's common knowledge that many shootings occur with the victim's own firearm. Why you'd pick that story to defend your point I'm not sure, but I'm sure glad you did.
Would you like to confess to your TBN Bretheran?
Later,
Dan
You are quoting history but ignoring the modern day. Taking guns away in our cities has been tried and has done nothing to deter gun violence.
Possibly. You make a very good point. Things like that happen to people without training and rarely to those that are.
Waynebro, the way your posts read you seem very well educated in history; specifically the wild west. May I ask your background in history? If so are you a proffesor, teacher, or a history buff?
Not possibly.
Probably.
The fact is only a small handful of people would ever complete or utilize the training you speak of. You are a martial artist. Then you are familiar with the actions of adrenaline even on trained persons when confronted with true fight or flight situations. Every day "trained drivers" have accidents. These people are able to pass exams, drivers tests, graduate from drivers schools, and yet when confronted with the unexpected, seldom perform as they were taught to do.
True "some people" will take advanced courses in defensive driving techniques, yet even these graduates don't always perform as expected.
As for your example, we can both just speculate as to what may or may not have happened had your mom had a pistol that day in her purse.
She may have pulled it and scared them off.
She may have pulled it and shot them.
She may have pulled it and accidently shot you.
They may have taken it from her and shot you both.
Or they may have taken her purse before she pulled it and shot some other poor unfortunate with it later that day.
We don't know, because she didn't have one.
But there is one thing we do not need to speculate on. One thing we can take away from that situation.
She didn't have a gun that day, and no one got hurt.
Lol, Thanks, but like someone told me in here in another thread I'm just getting old enough to realize how much I don't know.
But yes I am a history buff, and did study some back in the day. My focus tends to be on WWI, (specifically aviation) and WWII (all aspects) as well as early American history (Revolutionary period), Greco\Roman history (lifes and times of the Caesars) and Biblical History (particular emphasis on early Christianity, the Historical Jesus and the Supression of Heresy through the ages).
As one of my old (old old old)teachers used to tell me, "History's a wonderful thing only if we learn it and more importantly, learn from it."
Sure. I won't argue with you there. No situation is perfect. I'll give you that. And yes. I've been walking for over 30 years and still trip sometimes. But having martial arts training and a weapon swings the odds a little. Another thing. Many people feel that people that carry a gun shoot first and ask questions later. Not saying that's you. Just in general. I'm all for avoiding conflict, walking the other way, and only using submission techniques or my weapon as a LAST line of defense. Just to be clear.
