Who has a Max 24 and what are your thoughts?

That Max 24 is the right size for your small 4.5 acre place.

My first tractor was a new 2005 Kubota B7510HST (21 hp engine, 17 hp pto, 4WD, hydrostatic tranny, power steering) with the LA302 FEL (4-ft wide bucket, 800 lb lift). Cost:$12,600. I used it for three years on my 10 acre place in Tehama County that is flat like yours.

When I decided to become a hay farmer, I traded the 7510 for a new 2008 Mahindra 5525 (55 hp engine, 45 hp pto, 2WD, partially synchronized gear tranny 8F/2R, power steering, triple rear hydraulic remotes) with the ML250 FEL (6-ft wide bucket, 2950 lb lift to 10.5 ft height, skid steer quick attach option). Cost: ~$19K.

Keep looking until you find a dealer with decent service and parts departments within 50-100 mile radius.

The lot looks flatish from that pic but it's actually a hill. the front is a slight slope and the back is a little bit steeper. It's nothing too crazy, but definitely not all flat, plenty of flat at the top though. Unfortunately in this area, there are only the few dealers, small town area isolated from the bigger markets. I may make some calls about 120-150 miles north to see what they can offer. That's the King City, Salinas area and there are a TON of farms there!

Unless you are inside a barn there are very few places that CUT cannot go that an SCUT can. Having the lift capacity and other capability that comes with a larger frame will be handy down the road for little or no extra money now.

yeah I could get my 28 with the junk on the back and the loader on the front pretty much wherever, I think it's a scosh over 5ft wide depending on what's on it (the actual tractor is narrower than that). I did a number of things within the confines of a city yard this past summer without issue regarding maneuverability.
