I like the simple design of the quick tach JD pallet forks and was wanting to build my own based on that design. There aren't any to look at in my area, so I need some help on the dimensions from those of you who own these. I'm looking for the following:

Dimensions and length of top and bottom square tube
Dimensions and thickness of the side plates
Dimensions and thickness of the middle support plates
Distance between the middle support plates
Diameter of the fork mounting rod
Distance from center of fork mounting rod to bottom of side plate
Height of fork to center of mounting tube
Thickness of mounting plate where loader frame attaches

I also plan to add mounting points for 3PH use and possibly a grapple. This will be my first project with my new welder - a Millermatic 210. Can't wait to get started! My biggest problem (other than needing the measurements above /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif ) is finding a set of used forks - I have looked everywhere!

Thanks for any help you can give me!

Steve,

I received your PM and haven't forgotten about you. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif I'll try to go out this evening and measure up all these dimensions on my forks and get back to you by PM. Please be patient....I'm wrapped up in a lot of things right now.

Thanks Bob. I wasn't sure you got my PM since it didn't show up in my list of sent PMs for some reason. I was going to send a follow-up PM, but I couldn't remember who I had sent it to. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Thanks again!

Will have time this evening to measure up what you are looking for. I'll post here instead in the forums for the benefit of all.

Steve,

Here's the information you're looking for. These measurements are for the JD pallet forks that fit on JD's 460 loader (I believe it's the same as what fits on the 430 loader). See pic attached.

Dimensions and length of top and bottom square tube

Square tube is 3" x 3". Both tubes are 53 1/2" in length.

Dimensions and thickness of the side plates

Side plates are trapezoidal in shape. Top is 4 1/2"W. Bottom is 8" wide. Plate is 21 1/2" high. Plate is 1/4" thick.

Dimensions and thickness of the middle support plates

4" wide x 15" high. Plate is 1/4" thick

Distance between the middle support plates

10 3/8"

Diameter of the fork mounting rod

1 1/2"

Distance from center of fork mounting rod to bottom of side plate

16 1/2"

Height of fork to center of mounting tube

18 1/4"

Thickness of mounting plate where loader frame attaches

1/4 "

Hope all this helps you out.

..Bob

Northern Tool sells new ones, I've been looking for used ones also. If you are near a large town, they often have forklift junkyards. I'll let you know if I find any.

rancar -

Thanks a bunch for the measurements. I think those will get me pretty close.

I'm still looking for some good used forks, so if anyone in the central Indiana area knows where some are, let me know.

I'll post some pics as soon as I get mine all put together.

Thanks again!

Here is a picture of my dads home brew pallet forks for his loader. You can see he rigged it for either the loader or 3 point hitch in the rear.

Your Dad does some nice work. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Any chance of some more pictures and maybe some 'how to' and materials used? I'd like to make one myself. I especially love the convertible front-to-rear feature.

I'm attaching the only other picture I have of the forks. He built them originally for my uncles Allis Chalmers. He just got the little Deere last month and my uncle didn't need them any longer so a re-work was in order. Other than the forks, I believe he said all the materials came out of the "scrap metal" pile.
He does read the board fairly regularly, so hopefully he can give you the specifics.
