jj, I assume i do have the hoses connected correctly. I haven't done anything to the tiller since i purchased it last may. I believe the beveled edges do go into the ground 1st but I'll have to hook it up sometime soon and check for sure.

I would not assume that the hoses are hooked up correctly from the factory. As I said before, if it is hooked up right, the beveled part of the tine will cut the ground first. Whether it cuts with the tines chewing up the dirt from the surface to some depth, the dirt will come back toward you from the bottom , It should not throw dirt at you. If it does, you need to keep the tiller on the ground and or tilted so as to prevent that from happening.

Now, if the tiller is designed to cut with the beveled side of the tiller turning back toward you, which means that the cutting action is from some depth towards the surface. you may get some dirt thrown over the top, back toward you. Again. adjustment is required to keep dirt off you.

Does anyone know if the tiller was designed to pull backward, or push forward.

If you are thinking about switching the tines around, you need to be sure that they will bolt up correctly. if they will not reverse, then reversing the motor is not a good idea.

For those that have rocky soil, you can add a valve for reversing the motor for clearing jams.

How many of you have speed control on the PTO? Those that have to activate the PTO with a switch probably do not, you are full on of off. You can regulate the speed somewhat by changing engine rpm.

My rough cut mower was connected backwards from the factory. Just swapped hoses after approval from PT

I think the tiller is designed to be pulled backwards.

Mine rotates forward on top and back underneath. (It will pull the machine forward.) The cover is easily tilted so that it doesn't spray dirt in your face.

I'm sorry, but I'm laughing my *** off with that dirty in your face comment. Seems about any new tool I get ends up smashing my thumb, pinching that area between my thumb and index finger or spraying something in my face.:D

That should work good. Just like a reverse rotation tiller, if you pull it backwards to cover you rtracks.

PT doesn't list a tiller for the 1850, but they can switch out the mount plate and it will work.

Mine is on the 1845, 60". It would work on the 1850, but you may want wider. As I posted earlier, I run once forward and then back over it to cover the tracks. That's enough to take the soil to powder, but it is easy soil that has been done before.

Yep, the 72" is the one I'm looking at. A heavy duty rev. rot. tiller for the Deere is around $4000.00. So I'm going with the PT (which will also be much more manuverable). I figure I'll have to baby it, I'm planning on getting a box blade too (3 pt hitch heavyier than PTs) to use to bust up the hard stuff.

Ken and I ordered our 3pt from Lackenders. He put into his rig an adjuster so that we could tilt the box blade angle. It is remedial, and I have yet to see it and see if it works. Ken will have his sooner than me...

Anyway, just a thought.
