Here in the northeast, specifically the area north and west of Boston, ALL on-road diesel comes from the same bulk storage tanks no matter what the brand. I don't think brand specific chemical packets are added to the diesel at the rack like for gasoline.

This means that today you may get diesel that was refined by ABC and the next time you may get diesel from a batch refined by XYZ.

Basically the same thing happens for gasoline except that Mobil has their own bulk storage tanks.

This is for the greater Boston area only. Fuel distribution varies from region to region.

Are you saying a consumer can drive up to the bulk plant or the distributor and have them fill up their container? )</font>

Well sorta.
I have a bulk plant here that will fill up a container of less than 150 gallons if they are delivering in my area.
I can also take my container to the bulk plant and they will fill it the next morning so I can pick it up later that day.
There are 2 distributors here who do the same thing.

because they falsely assume the 100 - 300 minimum means they can't buy less than the minimum.
This is NNS (not necessarily so) as I've just illustrated.
