I don't know about the soda, beer, detergent mix. I needed the opposite. I wanted to have a place to park my 30' camper and didn't want grass to grow under it. My local highway department was scraping up roadside dirt one spring and I asked about using that dirt as a base fill to use under my camper. The guys told me they would give my as much as I want but not to expect grass to grow since it was contaminated with all the road salt from winter plowing. I said that was exactly what I wanted. I had them dump 2 ten wheeler loads, I leveled it out and parked my camper there. By the end on summer I had to mow it each time I did my lawn. So much for that theory.

My dad begged the state for their ditch dirt for our garden for years.. He wanted everyone elses topsoil and it did make a nice garden..

If beer isn't good for grass, why does A-B own so many sod farms that are used to dispose of the water from the brewery's? (Both of my tractors came from a sod farm)

I saw that article somewhere. The detergent acts as a wetting agent which helps absorb more water in the soil. The soda added sugar, which they said was food. Th beer supposedly sped up the breakdown of dead grass etc, ammonia helped grre growth. They said this was grat for struggling lawns. Anyone tried it?
