I just went to a auction on Saturady and really enjoyed myself. Me and my Father-n-Law hooked up the trailor to my truck and off we went. We talked the whole way there. After reading the listing in the local paper. I knew what I wanted before I even went to the auction. I ended up coming home with a drill press, 15 ton hydraulic press and a three point hitch for towing a trailor on the back of my tractor. All three of these item came from a local dealer that pasted away a few months back. On are way home, we didn't talk much. I was so tired sitting and standing in the hot sun, just drained me. If I had to do it again, I would cause I really enjoy being there. I can tell I made allot of pack rats mad cause I was bidding against them. But for me, I was saving money. And I knew what I wanted before I even arrived at the auction. Plus I needed these items. Just today, I came home with a FREE band saw for cutting metal. I bid on one at the auction but it went higher than a new one would go for. So I back out of the bidding. Thanks goodness I did cause I wouldn't have got one for free. It now sits in my shop in pieces waiting for me to clean it up. It was a little to rusty for my liking. When I get done with it, it will look like a new one. The drill press and the hydraulic press just needs to be degreased and add some new paint. The drill press needs a hood to cover the belt and pulleys (have no idea were the old one ways). As for the 3 pt hitch receiver, all I did was change the cat I pins to cat II pins (hate using the bushing). Having these tools will help me to build a few more implements for my tractor. I wont have to use my sawzall or hand held electric drill no more.

I don't know about you guys, but I cant wait to go to the next one. Never know what I will find. Anyways, thought I'd share my fun filled weekend with you guys and gals.

I love auctions but I don't go much anymore because I tend to get caught up in the bidding. Before I know it, I've bought a $2,000 piece of equipment for $5,000. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I like to go, but find that I'm better off just dropping in--if I know there is something there that I want, I'm too likely to end up paying more for it than I should. Find some neat stuff cheap--not often enough, but hey-you never know if you don't go!

I like to go to them, but I don't buy a lot when I do go. I now watch what I am doing a little closer after buying a two wheel trailer that I didn't even know that I bid on. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I went to my first auction about a month ago that had a lot of farm equipment. I was looking for a box blade and an old 4 or 5 foot disk of which they had. I couldn't believe the prices people were bidding on these things. It was like they get caught up in bidding against each other with money to burn. I did'nt buy anything because there were no bargains. But it was kinda fun watching people bid.

I can't believe either the prices OR the stuff they bid on.

Back in the late 70s with the "back to the horse days" movement I attended a big community farm auction. I swear that they could have gotten an outrageous price for a rock if they could claim a horse had been tied to it at one time.

I do like to go to them myself but if I intend buying I have a price I won't exceed and I don't bid on stuff I'm not intending to buy.

I love auction but the prices are getting to high for me. Went to one last month and a use box blade went for $50 less than new /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
The best time to get a deal is on a cold wet day. Keeps a lot of folks in. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I avoid the bright and shiny stuff and preview what I want and figure what it's worth. Usually what I get needs fixin some way or another, but I know what to expect. I only buy heavy duty stuff at auction also

MMM,

Funny story about bright and shiny vs. old, rusted. At one of the last auctions I went to I got a brand new looking KK 5' Box Blade for around $75 (it was cold and rainy and only about 10-12 people showed). However, a non-running, rusted to bits, transmission-less, riding lawnmower went for over $200. I almost passed out. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif I went over and talked to the guy later (you could tell he was definetly a city slicker). He said he knew a guy who could fix it for about $700-800. I told him he was being taken for a ride but he wouldn't believe me. Later that week I happened to be riding through the city of the sale and saw the same lawnmower sitting beside the road in front of a big, mansion type house. And sure enough, the guy was standing outside putting a for-sale sign on it. I stopped and talked to him. Turns out the guy he knew couldn't fix it. Now he's trying to sell the same mower in the same condition he bought it for $500. Some city folk's stupidity scares me!!!!!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
