I GAVE UP.
I just purchased a small (100# hopper) 12-volt salt spreader that I will front mount for the winter. It uses an aluminum hopper and stainless spreader parts. Mounts on a 2" receiver hitch for use on a truck, I intend to front mount it (somehow). That way I can use the blower on the rear and spread salt off the front of the tractor. I may mount it to the front bumper with the FEL removed? Or maybe clamp it to the top of the bucket so the FEL can stay on? Leaning toward removing the FEL (I usually leave it off in the winter). Got it on Ebay for $269. Not great, but it will do for salt spreading around the drive and entry areas.
I will then continue my search for my ideal (or the next best thing) 3pt spreader for seed/fertilizer with approximately a 250# capacity.
-- I like the unit from Thompson Seeders, but the capacity is 200#, it uses a galvenized hopper.
-- I also like the HERD Seeders, but near as I can tell they discontinued the model that I liked.
-- Befco Hop is high on my list, if for no other reason than they make top quality stuff so I presume their spreader is also top notch.
But from what I can see, all of the small PTO driven spreaders (under 500+# capacity) use hoppers are made of painted steel. Big stuff for real farmers has fiberglass or poly hoppers.
