Who makes best heat pumps (HVAC)

Just installed a Trane 18 SEER heatpump, exchanger and a split -mini heat pump...Electric bills are declining and the air temp is much more stable than the 16 year old Am Standard it replaced...Painfully expensive -- like 12 grand but probably worth it.

Here is the reality...

No one brand is the "best".

It all comes down to installation and the contractor.

Pick any brand, and I can give you a horror story where the homeowner in question thinks the brand is nothing but junk and you couldn't pay them to put the same brand in again.

Per the last post above mine, American Standard and Trane are the SAME company.

Did have to visit one manufacturer a little bit ago (residential facility). It was interesting as it was the first time in over 20 years I had armed soldiers in the convoy (Mexico).

Only two manufacturers left who make everything 100% in the United States anymore (per residential line). Both manufacture commercial 100% in the US as well, but they both do chillers in Mexico like everyone else.

It is interesting that some are even now importing product directly from China and labeling it.

Located just outside Houston,Texas, a $417 million Daikin Texas Technology Park is one of the largest and most technologically advanced HVAC manufacturing facilities in the country.[1]

sure was ignorant of Goodman, quality Texas company bought out by venture capitalists for 1.4 Billion, who resold it finally winding up owned by Japanese for 3.7B or thereabouts.
So the Daikin folk pay a huge amount of money for this company, and then spend another half billion on this new huge plant in Texas. Go Goodman.
And get a good installer.

Goodman and York.

That said, re read my previous post. Name the brand, and there are multiple horror stories, including "American Made".

An HVAC system is kind of like a living breathing creature actually "created" during the install. EVERY manufacturer can have an employee having a hangover on a Monday or Friday and screw things up. However, 80% of "perceived quality" IMO comes down to good installation practices (INCLUDING ductwork). All "start up" techs know they need gauges, very few think they need manometers.

"That is why in my service tech days a lot of employers provided all the tools and instruments", too hard to monitor what the tech had or didn't have till something that didn't get done right created a call back. It costs upward of $50K to equip a service truck with tools. equipment, and parts.

Today's complex systems require a lot of technician training to maintain skills and update to new stuff which employers now provide training. And consumers ***** about labor cost but want the best work, beware the guy undercutting the competition. Wages are high as it cost too much to train new people; but industry is now crying for workers as there is a drastic shortage of trainable man/woman power. Unions are experiencing 50% drop out rates in apprentice schools as our schools are not providing the proper background knowledge base to those not inclined to go on to college so college drop rates are up and same with are trade apprentices. And we wonder why people are not working.

I was talking to a service tech the other day I asked , you pull 400 microns on your installs ? His answer, Man, who the he!! does that ? If we did that, we wouldn't get much done.. I just laughed and walked off.

Ken, translate please, what does that mean? Clearly not optimizing system but is this a common fault?
Wondering what if anything normal homeowner can see/evaluate as to the job done.
