Does anyone out there know who makes case/ new holland motor oil? I am sure they dont make it but I dont see it on container and parts people are not sure either. any body who has priced this oil knows its higher than most other oils( almost twice the cost). I would like to find who makes it and then could buy it off the shelf much cheaper im sure.

Just for reference- even if you find out who makes it, that doesn't necessarily mean they sell exactly the same oil under any other name including their own....

Buy a different brand...of the weight required...that EXCEEDS the oil specs for your equipment and thats readily available...and dont worry over it.

The distributor I buy my oil from (I buy about a pallet a month) tells me that there are only about 3 manufacturers of the base stock. They then sell the base stock to different oil companies that do their own blending. New Holland does not manufacture the oil, they give the spec's they want to the refiner and have it mixed. Any good quality major brand will function fine in your engine. You are paying more for the label on the pail.

A good friend of mine was very high up in a major oil company before being downsized. He tells me that many big oil companies farm out their manufacturing to another company that is more local to save shipping costs. You could be getting Mobil oil made by Shell, and vice versa.

There is a whole lot more than 3 base stock manufacturers in the US. Don't have my base stock refiner wall chart handy at the moment but there are numerous refineries in the US.

It is true that large multi-plant oil manufacturers may use a regional plant to manufacturer oil on a regional basis but they are using their base stock. Changing base stock from one company to another would make it a completly different oil that would need a seperate API certification. Base stock properties vary widely from one to the other so the same base stock that was used in the certification phase must continue to be used, if it's not they pull the API certification.

To the original question, if memory serves correctly New Holland Ambra and Case Akcela oil products are manufactured by FL Viscosity Oil Company out of Willowbrook, IL. You would not be able to buy directly from FLV oil, they are a blender not a retailer and soley blend/manufacturer mainly for equipment/ag manufacturing companies.

thanks to everybodys replies. Dieselpower that was exactly what I was looking to here. I have been in diesel industry for many years and knew that some manufacturers branded oil was just some other brand in there own bottle and that some manufacturers had oil blended to there specs. I have used several different brand over years Rotella- mobile delvac etc. just wanted to know if there was anything special about Case-New holland (Ambra) oil. I still dont know if its worth extra money but its always good to know facts.

fairlane: Some time ago there was a discussion of just what you want to know but as usual I cant find it. I dont recall details but the I think NH made some claims about better protection or some such. I searched for Ambra, mastergold etc but I cant find it. Not sure which forum it was in either, here or NH. Maybe you can find it.

OEM's typically buy low cost and sometimes low-quality oils from lubricant manufacturers, put their labels on them and send them out for distribution at dealerships. Contrary to consumer perception, OEM lubes often are equal to the performance quality of the cheapest aftermarket oils on store shelves. Dealers can command higher prices simply because the consumer perceives it to be more appropriate for the application.

That may be true but I doubt OEM's would be putting out cheap, junk oil to use in their equipment when they have to warranty them. I am not saying it is the best but I doubt it is the cheapest.

I just buy my oil from my NH dealer when they have their spring discount. Buying bulk saves even more money and I don't have to worry about making sure what other oil I am using meets CNH requirements.

JD will allow its engines to go 50% longer between oil changes if you use their synthentic oil. They won't do that with other oil. They may or may not have the "best" oil but they let you run longer.

I imagine that there are companies out there doing that but that's not the case here. To look back just a few years ago Case-IH had a warrantee on their tractor engines for 5000 hours. I often see people here on this board saying that is all the life to a diesel engine. To say that they have a better blend then the average shell rottella, you bet but shell does have some better grades than rotella and when you get up to that quality of oil the shell is about the same price.

The goal of the company when they designed the 300 and 400 series engine was for 3000 hours full throttle full load. For theie gas engine it was 1500 full throttle full load.
