Who makes the higher HP HST utility tractor?

BrokerMike, what size bushhog do you have now and what size do you want to increase to?
Lot of experience here in how much tractor you need for what size mower.

I do think it's interesting that my Kubota is like an old fashioned GM Powerglide, a two speeder.
Then we went to three speeds, then four, then five, then I think we are up to ten speeds now in cars.
Yet our hydros seem to be standing still at two speeds. Perhaps someone has a three speed by now, L,M,H, but the analogy
to a car trans is pretty strong. More speeds, assuming some ability to "lock up" the trans, has to be more efficient.
Which I think was the design motivation for IVT/CVT; a way to get more gear (torque?)multiplication with a simple push of the lever.

We run a 6' brush hog, it's a light duty. would sure like to have a heavy duty rotary mower but they're heavy as heck. We run loaded tires, and ice pick chains in the winter, it makes the tractor heavy and slow with only 40hp.

I need about 2500lbs of loader capacity like I have on my Kioti. We also run a grapple up front and a hydraulic top cylinder, so yeah you quickly run out of hands

I'd like to run ag tires and have larger front tires like on a utility tractor in a perfect world.

making some big assumptions based on where you live, can we assume hilly ground, some "moguls" or areas that you could scalp with a really wide fixed mower?
Seems the next step up is a batwing 10 footer and you bet, needs a lot more tractor. So for a HD six or seven foot brush cutter, particularly for some land clearing in addition to field mowing, whatever, the real question is will 55-60hp at the pto do it. Most likely will unless you really load it down. Should be a bunch of members here with 4720 JD's. If it were me, I'd post in the JD section and ask if their 4720 tractor could do the following and list what you want to do. I'd pick a new bush hog and list that model too. That will give you real world feedback and not brochure hype. You are likely talking about a 50% increase in power over what you have now, but since we rarely run at full output, not going to see some huge improvement in daily use other than when working hard.

I never loaded the unit down hard but my 50hp pto Kubota HST with loaded tires and a FEL on ran an 84" Land Pride HD bush hog with the a/c going and never budged the temp gauge.
It's really a matter of how heavy a load you will put on the mower. My LP mowers have been superb, worth the extra cost. But a Bush Hog and others I'm sure
are comparable.

I don't remember for sure, but I faced the same delimas. IIRC, to keep HST, no one offers that with the larger 20" + front rims. But like I said, I cannot remember for sure.

Perfect world would be 60hp, in a 4000# HST tractor, with 20" front rims (for smoother ride that a taller tire offers).

Amen. My next tractor will have large front rims (ok, "wheels" for Gmanbart), and I'll take whatever transmission is available. HST would be nice, but a hydraulic shuttle would be a good second choice.

Just looked through some specs again, and it seems the ideal tractor just isn't made.

Kioti NX is the biggest they offer with HST, and 9.5-16's are as big as you get. Jump to the RX to get the 20" wheels....no HST.

Same for Kubota. GrandL and MX push 60Hp, but limited to the 9.5-16's. move to am M, and no HST.

Same for deere and the 4-series and 5 series.

Pretty much the same across the board.no one makes a 60ish HP tractor with HST AND 20's up front, cause a light 4000# tractor, with some smooth rolling 9.5-20's up front and some 14.9-28's in the back and a 3-range hydro.......hard to beat that for a commercial bushhogging rig.

I was shopping used just a few months ago. And decided the HST was more important than the larger fronts. It's literally like comparing a lawn mower to a ztr. Only wish I had gotten the r4's for increased puncture resistance and better wearing, and better flotation up front. But it is what it is when shopping used.

I was actually just looking at the specs, and it seems that the 12-16.5 r4 fronts are the same specs as the 9.5-16 AG's. Or at least close enough to call them the same. Just depends on brand. There seems to be a range of about a half inch either way that both tires fall in. Speaking in terms of diameter, rolling radius, rolling circumference, etc. But they sure seem more than 2.5" wider, which would sure be an asset.

Odd though that the 17.5L-24 rear specs a diameter about 3" shorter and a rolling cir. Of about 10" less than the 14.9-26 ag

I noticed this on the lot looking at two side by side. Fronts are near identical height, rears is a noticable bit shorter with r4's.

In either case, if I am gonna measure my rim specs. 12-16.5 is a pretty common ss tire. And if I happen upon a set for a decient price that will fit, I may just be a few bucks broker.
