("PT and VT are tractors, but I think they are within their own category of specialized units. I don't think they are within the same "general purpose" category as what most of the world thinks of when they hear "tractor".")<<<<<<<<<<<<< I can live with that...................and thanks for taking the time to look that up.

Is that the smallest Mahindra-made tractor sold in the US?

There is a smaller unit in the 35 series built by them. I'm not sure about their other series.

I'm sure many of these compact tractors are fine machines. But with having a sea of manufacturers, what about the second 10 years of ownership when these tractors require parts and service. And the third 10 years? And the fourth 10 years?

The real value in tractors has been those that have great parts and service availability for the long run. Will compact tractors be running 40 years from now? Certain models of Deere Tractors, Case Tractors and Ford/New Holland tractors are still serviceable because of the universal availability of parts. These are tractors being inherited by grandsons and great grandsons.

My old Mahindra 2015 had a Mitsubishi engine. You never knew if it was going to start for you. I was glad to get that off my hands.

Some of Deere's are Yanmar. Deere imports a engine and transmission assembly, adds wheels and a hood, and it sold as a Deere.

Don't forget the greene paint so many deere owners are so proud of

That's unusual, those Japanese built Mahindra tractors were/are super reliable. But a bad glow plug, a dirty connection or a poorly adjusted safety switch can make anything not start. In the hands of a competent technician, whatever was causing your 2015 to not be a reliable starter could have been easily and quickly fixed.

I'm not saying they were perfect. They used little cheesy battery cable ends for a few years, and combined with a low dollar Exide battery the terminal ends would corrode and make a poor connection. And early 2015s consumed glow plugs at a much faster rate than would be expected (later updated and problem fixed). Routine maintenance would catch these items before they became a reliability issue. I really like the Mitsu Mahindra product so I may be a bit biased.

I don't think any diesel could start any easier than mine..in any temp. Sometimes the starter doesn't even turn a whole turn before it starts.

check out the -9 F video I made. No block/oil/battery heater on it either.

Cold starting the Mahindra 316 at minus 9F - YouTube

That's impressive. I can hear your hydraulic pump whine a little trying to move that thick oil. I know nothing about cold weather. It's not allowed where we are at.

Almost all of my issues were glow plugs that did not work or battery related. Unbelievable amount of corrosion to the battery terminals. I ended up changing the battery cables which did help. Last time I took the tractor in to the dealer to be serviced the technician told me I had the wrong glow plugs installed even though I purchased them through the dealer for my specific tractor. Anyways the dealer shut down shortly after my last service so I thought it would be a good time to get rid of my mahindra since there was not a dealer in the area anymore. Plus I could sell it in good conscience knowing that it was running fine at that time. I bought another Kubota to replace it.
