Mornin Steve,
Real nice job with that Kodiak. I think the big thing for you doing it that way is keeping those blades good and sharp !!! Just remember that when you hit a rock you need to resharpen :(

Nice job just the same !

No rocks to worry about here, all sand. BUT what gets us down here when it comes to blades needing sharping, is those good old Fire Ant hills, hitting them is almost as bad as hitting a rock. EDIT, I way around that is drag before cutting.

Nice Steve. Looks like a lawn! I have broad flat levees around my pond planted with centipede that I like to keep mowed nice. I set my Woods 6' BH as low as it will go, and raise the deck ~1" higher in the rear. I run the cutter RPM on about 400, and run in a middle gear... about 6-7mph. The sharp blades are the real secret. The secret to keeping the blades sharp is to keep the cutter speed down as low as possible yet still get a smooth cut. Cutting no more that 1/2 of the grass length also helps keep it looking nice.

That looks good. I guess the biggest difference is a FM can cut down lower. I can't imagine mowing that much on a riding mower. it would kill my back (and did) when I mowed about 1-acre. Not the best seats on my old one. The L2500 is a much better ride.

That makes up my mind for me! I was considering buying a RC and also using it to cut the grass and looking at your results that is all I will need.
Thanks

Just 1 warning! If you buy an RC, 2 or 3 cuts and your land will no longer need it. You are usually better off with a RFM! Wish I had bought one instead of the RC. Now I have no more bushes or weeds to cut! :)

In all seriousness, if you plan to cut only 2-3 times a year, a RC may still be the best way to go. But still, a tractor can pull a wider RFM than RC. Are you tempted yet? :)

I use my zero-turn to cut my really flat grass. I can cut about 30K sq ft in about 20 minutes. Once I get my land the way I want it, I will be trading in the R4s for turf tires and getting a RFM, as long a one as possible. Right now I have the 6 ft hog on my L3400 and it workd pretty well. Might be able to get seven feet out of an RFM.

That is how I have been cutting my lawn also. It works great as long as the blades are good and sharp.

Great points Bob but right now I am trying to save $$ and I feel I will have jobs for the RC for quite sometime. I have too many areas that will need cut 2 -3 times a year. But hey maybe later buying a RFM if needed and keeping them both. Right now I am going to stay on the budget RC doing multiple jobs but you have me thinking!
