Who quit their desk job for their dream job?

Just curious...who here has quit their "cushion" desk job and switched to their dream job?

I have a lot of perks with a desk job (especially with Covid, working from home, starting a family, etc.) - but like everyone - the grass always looks greener....

I'm 99% sure I will never convince myself to change, but, who has done it?

I quickly decided a desk job wasn’t for me and quite college after a semester.

I completely changed careers 21 years ago and have never regretted it. I landed my dream job right out of college. Turned out my dream job was not such a dream. I ended up completely changing course.

I have a J-O-B. Not a bad job at all, just not a dream job. No real stress, solid 6 figures and I have been working from home on and off for a long time now. So maybe it is a dream job.

My real dream job is when I retire.

This is exactly what I’ve been planning for. Don’t know if it will happen but it’s been a long time coming. I have a sneaking suspicion I’ll be the guy that’s only working to help his kids.

I did in 2008 when I went to work for myself at home. Started a month before the crash but fortunately, it didn’t have an impact. Now my “traffic” is typically the dogs in the hallway which extends my commute from 1 minute to 1 min, 5 seconds.

That's what i did. Honestly, i woke up and shut everything down. By that time I was a 1 man show, no more employees to worry about, no wife, kid grown, house and everything else paid for and I'm living on airplanes?

Called the co I was representing, worked it out and I was done! 55

6 months later the wheeler dealers got caught with those phony mortgage derivatives. I lost 1/2 in the stock market and 2 properties within 1 year.

I always plan for worst case but this time it happened!

I could do what I did because.....I don't drink or smoke, big expenses there. I do not eat in restaurants on anything like a regular basis. I'm single and I don't chase women, both those are very expensive.

It's always more about what you spend than what you earn.

Right out of college I went to work for the government. It was a good job - lots of perks. I lasted almost 20 years. Then the wife and I had an opportunity to change and we did. In 1982 at the age of 40 I retired. Moved out of Alaska and built our home here on 80 acres that we owned. Never, ever regretted that decision.
