I left a supervisors position at a very large power plant where I was the Electrical and Instrumentation supervisor to go into the voltage regulator service business with a couple of "friends". We developed a 2000 amp full wave air cooled bridge rectifier to replace the water cooled units on a GE Alterrex system. Everyone thought I was crazy but I basically designed and buil the bridges out of my shop at home to begin with until we relocated to Grand Prairie, Tx. We sold a boat load of those things. Turns out I worked all the time and was never able to see eye to eye with the primary owner. So through contacts I made while working for that company I was offered an opportunity to go with a huge controls and automation company, do voltage regulator installation and commissioning and work from home. I work about 4 to 6 months a year and I absolutely love it. Make big money for a dumb redneck from SC. But when the schedule mandates or the phone rings I have to go. Gotta keep everyone's lights on....well from the generation side of the house, I can't do anything about those distribution guys.
