Backhoe Who regrets their Backhoe Decision?

As I've said before, the backhoe is my favorite tool and I use it almost all the time. I can't imagine a tractor without one. Of the 4 compacts and now a ag size machine, all of them had backhoes. I also am always looking for a bigger machine, which is why I bought a well used 44,000 # Hytachi excavator last year for use around the farm.

Hey Henro,

I must say I'm totally amazed at how popular the backhoes are on CUTs. I once had a JD 500A,but got rid of it. I've never felt the need for a tlb or even a 3pth mounted backhoe since. When ever I need holes dug,I just call the local tlb owner. He does them no muss no fuss. At $45 an hour it will be years before I get up to the value of a tlb.

No regrets at all. I use the backhoe almost as much as the fel. The best decision I made was to get the tlb.

My best decision ever was getting my wife. She insisted on the backhoe. I like it, too.

I've never seen a BH bucket without teeth - what jobs would you use it for? I may need another toy and I don't even know it! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

My only regrets would be (1) not getting one sooner, and (2) not getting a larger tractor able to support a backhoe with longer reach!

I often look out at my meadow and resent the fast-growing grass that keeps me from dropping the mower and mounting the BH. Then I resent the sheep for not eating faster. I used to have trouble cleaning out the garage because my wife would haul stuff from the junk pile back into the garage; now if I want something permanently gone, I dig a deep hole with the BH and bury it! Garage has never looked better!

Backhoeing is the most fun you can have with your clothes on!

I've seen covers that slip over teeth, usually on large excavators. Used for making flat bottom trenches /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

When I was shopping around I thought I needed a BH. In the end I just didnt have $6000 of work for it and I didnt think it was h/d enough for the work I might put it to. So, I passed. At this point I dont regret it and am glad I saved the $$$. Like Don if I need a BH I'll rent something big enough to get the job done quickly.

So the only folks who are sorry they spent money on a backhoe are those that didn't?
