When I get back to riding, it'll be a BMW like this.

The instrument cluster is being repaired by a specialist so it's still sitting in the garage!

I ride this bike most of the time, a 2008 Triumph Tiger 1050 with ABS. I've upgraded the suspension with a Penske rear and Penske internals in front. Do everything with this bike: track days, commuting, and touring. Even have a flag mount for Patriot Guard Rider missions.

The triples sound pretty cool: a friend of mine says they sound like someone tearing a giant carpet. Dry weight is 443 lbs and it has 115hp and 74 lb ft of torque. The liter sport bikes easily motor away from me on straights but it's pretty capable in the corners.

Since that picture I've added engine guards, pannier racks, protective spools on the axles, etc.

Thanks. Ironically, the bike that gets the most thumbs up wherever we go by far is the "Fat Tire Flier" a Yamaha TrailWay 200. Top speed, 55. You can't rush. Yamaha has sold them almost without change since 1987. They usually alternate the colors: blue one year, white the next.

They make air cushions now. I haven't used one but lots of people swear by them. HawkAir or something like that.

Air Hawk is the name of it. I've gotten 'soft' and use one for long rides now. After an 1,100 mile day on a stock seat KTM 640 I feel I deserve it

When you do your trip, you should check out the Transamerica Trail through a good part of the country. It makes the eastern states a lot more enjoyable going through the 'boring' stretches. The Tenere would be a great bike for the Eastern half.

Thanks, I'll Google it. Haven't heard of the Transamerica trail before. I'm looking for a good route from CO to SC so if it does cross some of that route I'll be interested.

First track day since 2014, first time riding at Palmer MotorSports Park (Palmer, MA). Started off nice and easy, stayed on the lines, built speed by the end of the day I was 15 seconds a lap faster, and still on the line and in control. This was the TTD "Non Sportbike" day 8/21.
