That is correct, so if you are going up around a corner or something look up around that corner, not off the road at the ditch or something.. Maybe I should have said look where you want to go.. Look at the pavement between the pot holes, not at the potholes or you will for sure hit them.

Also brake before the corner not in it, throttle through the turn.

Always!

Slow-Look-Press and Roll , and around the corner you will go!

Right on.. all braking should be done before your turn in point. Maintenance throttle to the apex or beyond, or to apex and roll on to accelerate. Again, tires can only take on so many directional forces at one time without losing traction.

Be smooth.

One other critical thing...let your tires get up to temperature before pushing them too hard.

And its not just noobies, but those that have been riding forever.. they have polished their mistakes and bad habits for years.

Yeah, a lot of us old farts are kinda hopeless.

As for looking where you want to go, that is drilled into you in a good 4-wheel driver's ed class, too. I had it in HS, which was a couple afternoons a week for about 12 weeks, with 3 other students in the car.

Other than putting your foot down while riding a street bike, the other major M/C-related thing that you do not want to carry over is twist-throttle over to sporty quads. There is a reason that ATVs have thumb-throttles, tho 2-wheeler veterans hate it.

I read somewhere that the vast majority of M/C accidents happen in the first year of ridership and/or are alcohol-related.

Take that class!

I agree that as a rule you do not ever put your foot down while cornering on a street bike ... but ..my left boot has quite a bit more of the sole worn off it from checking the slickness of wet asphalt. When we are out and get stuck in rain or out early and the road maybe slick from dew.. I regularly test the road traction with my foot.

Or traveling slow in a straight line... if the bike is moving … feet on the pegs!

Put your foot down. Throttle to kick out the rear tire.

Look maw, no brakes! (no front brakes)

Have fun! Daytona's just around the corner. :)
