Good looking Guzzi that V85TT. I don't know how the 460 pound bike would be on trails where things can change suddenly ? I had a big 850 Eldorado yrs ago. It was a superb road bike. I was looking at used Harleys last night to pass the time. Found a nice RK like my old one (1998) for $10k with few miles on it. But at my age I wonder about the wisdom of bike riding... heck I'm dangerous enough in the Porsche or Cobra. lol
How old are you riders?
IMO a V85TT (or any 500# bike) doesn't work on off road trails, unless they're well maintained and dry, and even then only for a short distance say to a camping spot.
I think of adventure bikes such as V85, GS, Harley Pan America, etc., as "all road" motorcycles that do everything pretty darn well. Whatever the surface be it dirt roads, gravel, broken pavement, nice pavement, it doesn't matter. I sold my Road King mostly because of the punishing ride on less than smooth roads. I cringed and tensed my back in anticipation of pain every time I saw a frost heave, bump, or pothole I knew I couldn't avoid then *wham* up my spine! On these adventure bikes they ride so smooth sometimes I aim for them.
Same with the type of roads, they're competent on them all, from small tight curvy ones up to I-10 across Texas.
They make good commuter bikes because since they're fairly high you have great visibility. And it's nice having panniers or even just a rear rack to carry your stuff to work.
They work solo without luggage almost like a sport bike, or panniers can be snapped on, a Drybag and tent strapped on the rear rack and loaded down for an extended journey with your passenger.
It's nice to have such versatility in one motorcycle.
I turn 70 next month and to "celebrate" I'm packing my tent and heading across country by myself.
