Draft control works when you use the hole that can move. Typically one end is near the pivot point and will not move, the other hole(s) are further way allowing the arm to be pulled back under heavy load.

Set the position control lever to establish the lower limit of implement operation. In the case of your plow, lower the position control lever until your plow reaches its operating depth. Then set the draft control lever to the amount of draft desired. Lower = more draft, higher = less draft.

Ok, update---no change in either upper or lower top link position(in fact if you look at the casting where the top link pins, it is one piece, single casting)---no matter where you set the position control, if you move the draft control more than 25% it cancels everything i/e the plow falls to the max. down travel the 3-point will allow---even with position control all the way up, once you reach the magical roughly 25% on draft down she goes---ALL the way down(I did this with rear wheels on the side of a ditch and was amazed how far down it will go.

Suggestions???

Maybe there's something wrong with the 3ph hydraulics or something.

I dont use the draft control, as it lifts the plough over the hardest patches; the spots that need loosening the most !!

that is what I think hence the continueing questions in this thread---trying to diagnose the problem with all the good folks here. I think some previous owner of the tractor replaced the pin piece with one that doesn't allow draft control but left the levers etc. There are 2 places to pin the top link, but these are a 1 piece casting so unable to "move" to allow draft control. I was hoping someone out there had experience with this model tractor---MF 254, perkins diesel, 4WD, 1987 vintage, made by Landini under license to MF. Its supposed to be a "compact Utility tractor" but it's a full size unit way bigger in size than most CUT's I've seen and larger than many "utility" tractors out there. Still hoping someone will chime in.
