I thought I saw a post on this board but now I can't seem to find it. Just picked-up our gray-market Yanmar last week and need to get a ROPS. I thought there was a post listing some places who make the ROPS for the gray market Yanamars. Can someone direct me to that post or list places that sell the ROPS for gray-market Yanamars? Thank-you in advance. This is important to me.

The answer is easy. No one sells a ROPS for the greymarket yanmar. There are some nice photo's of home made rops, Some retrofits from US yanmars and even one company selling a roll over bar (http://www.hstractor.com/) but no one sells a ROPS for graymarket yanmars. Its a DIY project.

I called HomesteadTractor about a month ago inquiring about purchasing a ROPS from them, and they told me that they aren't going to build any more, cause there are so inandated with building loaders, that the ROPS was to be built later on, if even then.

As these posts show, nobody directly sells ROPS for grey market Yanmars, however there is the possibility some american versions might fit. IE 135 to 1100: 155 to 1300: 240 to 2000: and 276 to 2310 etc. These ideas are just that I',m not sure. I'm checking on the 276 to 2310 as I have that model. It looks like it might fit from the owners manuel and parts book, but I haven't actually gotten to see the actual ROPS to make measurements. I don't want to fudge it now and then pay for it when I really need the ROPS.

If you post the model number someone here might know, or know an after market rops that fits.

The reason few dealers build and sell aftermarket ROPS is the possible legal liability incurred. A little caution and a lot of common sense is always better than a little steel. I have had my 1401d, with loaded loader up on 2 wheels a couple of times. After a diaper change and a little oxygen, I sat there and thought about what I was trying to do: Too much Too fast!
Take your time and think. You will be a lot better off.

I've seen several tractors over the years with fender mounted "roll" bars, that are also used to mount canopys. I guess these would assist in preventing a complete rollover, as well as adding some additional structure to the tractor. The fenders would probably bend in a rollover or if the tractor goes on its side, but they are going to bend a little if a tractor goes over anyway.
This seems like an easy DIY job using some round steel tubing bent at your favorite muffler shop. Maybe some 4"x4" square plate welded to the ends with 4 holes, mounted through the fender, with a backer underneath to spread the mounting force.
This of course would not be perfect, but is it possibly better than nothing? Comments?

Dan, seems to me that would just tend to give one a false sense of security. I can't imagine tubing that a muffler shop could bend would be strong enough for a ROPS. Nor do I think the fenders are strong enough to support it. You should check with your SCCA folks and see what they make roll bars out of, then double or triple that because of the extra length. Have you looked at some of the homebuilt rigs and seen how they attached to the axle housings, 3ph housings, or both?

Please do not forget to read the entire post that included: "This of course would not be perfect, but is it possibly better than nothing?"

Also, the homemade ones shown here that mount to the trans case are subject to the mounting bolts snapping off much like the toplink connection bracket that recently snapped off. The oversize diameter of the tubing probably reflects what was available for use, since I have yet to see 6 or 7 " tubing as a safety device on anything. Bigger does not mean stronger or better.

The factory Yanmar rollbar in my shop is made of square tubing. I'm sure it was bent using a hydraulic machine similiar to that found in a muffler shop.

In short, I am not recomending this to anyone, and stipulate it is not perfect. I do think you are underestimating what safety would be achieved using a securely mounted fender bar versus nothing.
