I would skip the bypass. The only thing it is going to do for you is to allow you to fill the pipes in the house with dirty water.
What I do is invest in some spares instead of a bypass. I keep extra filter elements, and an extra filter o-ring on hand. This lets me change the filters in a few minutes and we are back in business with fresh filters. Then I can pick up new ones at my leisure.
One trick I learned with the o-rings to those filters. They stretch while in use and sometimes when you go to reinstall the housing they won't fit. Replace with a new one and hang the old one on a nail close by. In a couple of months the old one will be back to its original size.
