Whooping Crane Visits Our Farm

Thanks for sharing the photos.
I was unaware of the situation of the whooping crane, or of the extent of help for the species people are providing.

I think I laughed the hardest of any time in my life a couple of years back due to a crane. I'm not up on the types.. but it is the type that is common in the piedmont of NC.
My father and I were squirrel hunting out of a boat drifting down a creek channel. We were very quiet and one of those huge rascals landed near the top of a tall poplar tree. He was so tall and heavy that when he landed, the limb he was standing on and nearly the whole top of the tree started oscillating. His body was basically motionless but his feet, legs and the limb were oscillating in a wide arc underneath him. After what seemed like about 10 seconds of him "fighting" to get it under control, he lost it and FELL through the tree and hit the ground with a thump. My dad and I were sure he was hurt, but after a couple of seconds he comes strutting out of the weeds, walks about knee deep out into the creek channel, sees that he made a fool out of himself and hits the skies again.
My father and I were in tears. We just about capsized the little John boat we were in laughing.
