Who\'s a bigger idiot???

Me or my wife? I have been looking for some time and just bought a like new 4410 with loader, mower, and backhoe for what I thought was a very good price from a private person. Problem is..I don't have any land yet so its going to have to park in our driveway for awhile. I am still looking for property in WV and haven't found it yet. I told my wife that this deal is too good to pass up. I don't need the backhoe but figure I can sell it. So I got in an arguement with my wife over who's the biggest idiot. Me for buying it with no land or her for letting me??

I'd say neither... yet.

Now if you do this, it's a different story...

Seriously, if you get the tractor hang on to the hoe at least until you get the property. Depending on the land you may be surprised at how handy it will be /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Agreed. I'd love to have it for a toy if nothing else and I know it will come in handy at times, but its a big chunk of change.

Re: Who\'s a bigger idiot???

Definitely hang on to the hoe. Even while you're still shopping for your own land, you'd be amazed at how many people need light/medium duty backhoe work around their own places and don't want to rent, but would gladly pay someone a c-note to dig up a few stumps, level some ground, dig a few french drains, etc. etc.

Re: Who\'s a bigger idiot???

My wife loves my tlb (Tractor Loader Backhoe... I hate acronyms, really)

Actually, she lets me like HER tractor.

Hang onto that setup, you will love it, and just keep thinking SOMEDAY i can sell the hoe...

Just don't go digging up any fiber with it while you wait for the land.

Re: Who\'s a bigger idiot???

This is a great new concept ... size the land you are looking for to the tractor you already have. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Not the usual way of doing things but hey, it works for me as long as you (and your wife) are happy. Good luck with the land purchase when you find it and hold on to the hoe until you do.

Re: Who\'s a bigger idiot???

I bought my first tractor while we still lived in a neighborhood on a 1/4 ac lot. Later we moved to the 'country'.. etc. I just kept it tarped in the back yard untill needed.

Re: Who\'s a bigger idiot???

I had a chance to cherck with my wife. She said you are the idiot. Your wife is completely in control.

Funny, she had very little to go on, just that there is

1 man
1 wife

and one is an idiot... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Re: Who\'s a bigger idiot???

Neither one of you is the idiot. In fact your both smart to invest in something for a steal that can make money for you. Keep the hoe and do side jobs. Don't sell it. You will be kicking yourself if you sell it just to find out you needed it later on.

Re: Who\'s a bigger idiot???

Agreed with most on here. Keep everything if you need the extra $ then sell if not a tractor is probably one of the best investments you can make these days. Or at least in that type of catagory. I do a lot of side jobs with my 110 plus you never realize how use full a hoe is for moving things until you have one you will find things to use it for. I guarantee it.

Re: Who\'s a bigger idiot???

Twenty-five years ago, when my wife and I were first married, I came home one day with a brand new hickory-handled woodsman's axe I found on sale. Problem was, we were living in an apartment at the time.

I still have the axe. It's far from new 25 years and four homes later. Sounds like you made a good decision to me. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

By the way, remember that you are always the biggest idiot whether you REALLY are or not. That's why I still have a wife to go with my axe.

Re: Who\'s a bigger idiot???

I asked for power tools as a half-joke for wedding presents when I was first married so as to balance out all the girly home-making type of stuff usually given as wedding presents. One smart-**** friend gave us a brand new top-of-the line Union-brand spade shovel.

Problem was, we were living in an apartment at the time - absolutely no use for most tools, much less a shovel - it sat in the hall closet.

That wife and the apartment are long gone.

20 years later, I still have that shovel.

Re: Who\'s a bigger idiot???

Keep the tractor complete as is. You could do side work as others have said and from my experience, you will use it when you find your ground to purchase. I will end up renting one this spring to dig out many stumps. Enjoy the seat time doing work with it.

Re: Who\'s a bigger idiot???

Neither.

At least for that reason. If you are sure you are going to buy property and you fouund a machine at a good price, just a little early, that is a good thing.

Now if you are just tire kicking on the land, then both /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

PS. Dont sell the hoe. In fact if you are close to western PA, I have a few places that you can hone your skills with it while you are waiting for land /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Who\'s a bigger idiot???

I am very excited about taking delivery on this tractor next weekend. Supposed to go down to charleston to inspect it and finalize the deal. At the same time, I have an offer on 78 acres down there in the Ripley Spencer area. If I can leave it down there with a new neighbor, then I can use it on that land right away. I'm getting close.

Re: Who\'s a bigger idiot???

NEITHER OF YOU ARE MENTALLY DERANGED /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif if you really got an excellent buy, the only question is, being you don;t have your land yet, the tractor could end up being to large or too small. keep the BH till u find out if you need it or not, but from what you say, i think u will use it. IF YOU need a place to store it i have a few garages and would be more than happy to store it for you /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif i will even keep it cleaed up and make sure the BH works properly /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I wouldn't trade my BH for every shovel I've ever had my hands on.
