Whos the greatest heavyweight boxer of all time ??

I haven't watched boxing for years, not since the Don King era began and Tyson didn't help much either but here are my thoughts.

Probably .... the young Ali. I've never seen a heavyweight that was so fast, both with his fists and feet and unfotunately with his mouth. Now a fight between him and Joe Louis in his prime would have been something to watch. Where would Marciarno fit in????

Ali's last 10 bouts were certainly not his prime. In his prime, no boxer in the history of boxing could touch him. Too quick and agile, and too smart.

Alan, I'll certainly concede that all I saw was about his last 10 fights. I lost some respect because I felt that he should have simply said to the judges, "thanks, but I didn't win that fight". I think he lost that badly on those. Thus, my lack of respect for his boxing. His non-stop mouth never did much for me either. I prefer the boxers who let their boxing skills do their talking.

I like to watch Ali....I agree he hung on too long....he and Frazier both should have hung up the gloves after Manilla they both left a lot in the ring that night...I finally got see ALI Frazier II the other night( after all these years). Ali hurt Frazier in the second round and hit Frazier flush on the chin and Frazier actually retreated the referee thought he heard the bell ring and seperated the boxers and sent them to there corner and Frazier had a chance to regain his wits and then the mistake was realized and they sent them back to the ring for 10 seconds to finish round 2. Ali won on a unamious decision,but I think it should have been a split decision,it was a 12 round non title bout and Frazier was the agressor as usual ...Frazier had just lost his title to George Foreman.
If I remember right it was the 1st sell out of Madison Square to a non title fight. I like Ali...but Frazier was a heck of a good man,they said he could put holes in a sandbag with his bare knuckle.
Lets not forget Rocky Marciano...I seen some of his fights and what fights they were.Its sad what happened to Marciano...another good man.
Remeber Joe Fraziers singing group in the 70's " The Knockabouts" Frazier could sing fairly decent...
I was 16 years old when Ali and Foreman fought, I bought tickets to see it on closed circuit TV in Charleston WV...drove 70 miles down there and the closed circuit TV had crapped out..had to drive home and listen to the fight on the car radio..round by round..delayed round by round...they would not even let us into the civic center to listen to the speakers...we did get a refund though.
Joe Louis was another great champ and a good man as well.

When Buster Douglas beat Tyson, I thought Douglas boxed good that night,it was not a fluke that he beat Tyson...he out boxed him the whole evening,he was not as fast as Ali,but I thought this guy has some good combinations and punched well,then about a year later he fought again to defend his title and he acted like he did not even care to be there,I was so dissapointed in Buster,he seemed like such a good guy and I thought he would have been so good fo boxing and he may have put one of them down.

Remember Oscar Bonavena the South American heavyweight champ back in the 1970's ?,he was a bull.. he give Frazier and Ali both all they wanted,I think he may have gone the distance with both of them or close to it anyway.
