While I am not sure exactly when Ruger started to mark firearms that way, I do know for a fact that it was prior to 1982 , so that means over 40 years ago. I do know that Armalite, Bushmaster, Colt, Marlin, Remington, Springfield Armory, Thompson Center, Winchester, and others allow you to download some manuals, when available. You may be able to find others if you search enough. And in this day and age, scanning to PDF and saving a file is the norm. SAFETY is a common sense issue. Edit corrected Ruger date ((changed from 1993)).Wow--that is impressive! We have a few Ruger 10/22's ourselves--I will check them out for that warning, next time, myself. And YES--I could not agree with you more, on the SAFETY aspects of OEMs providing free manuals!
