Generator why aren't pto generators a lot cheaper?

I have one... Have had it since the bad hurricanes in florida back in 04.

I use it frequently on my farm. back before I had power out at one pasture, I used it daily to power up the water pump to provide water for the animals. I had it hooked to the tractor , on the trailer, and just backed up to the pump itself and hooked it up and ran. Powered it with a 1955 for 660. A graphing meter on the output shows it's power to be as clean as my local utility... voltage regulation was as good or better than my utility as well.

Thanks Chris. Do you have that model?? There is a HF across the road from a local breakfast place in Harrisburg. Think I may have to bring one home with us next July.

I don't have the model # handy.. but northern tools only sells one 12.5kw pto gen. not sure if this is the same gen you see at the chinese store? but maybee..

It's got a northstar lable on it... I have no idea of the country of origin.. but figure it's a good bet it could be chinese.. everything else seems to be coming from there..

This HF gen set looked like a option for me too.
This was out of the manual for the HF gen set.

i know mine is a brushless model, or so it claims.. and it is passive (capacitively) regulated.

Thanks. I figure you have put yours thru a few tests and it has been good, so I don't feel bad about buying one. What is an SF Gen head?? I think that is what was mentioned earler in this thread.

A search for them shows them to be a manufacturee of power and heating equipment.. and a supplier to northern tools among other things..

I'm getting to the point that I feel some guilt when I buy Chinese stuff.

This HF unit doesn't specify the PTO hp required to pull full amperage on that unit. I know a BX would turn the thing at full RPM with no load, but I wonder how many watts/amps of load could be put on it before it starts to lug down.

The NT gen linked below is 7200 watts spec'd @ 14 hp. and priced @ $900 ($240 more for driveline and you'd need to custom fab a frame) would be a good fit for a BX. I am guessing that the HF unit needs a min. of 29-30 hp to pull that 15,000 watt load.

Sure wish they'd include the hp spec. on the HF model.

so what.... figure out what load you can pull off it with your BX running it and be happy. If you ever do upgrade youll have plenty of generator to back it up.
