Why crane operators are licensed?

I'd like to see a what was going on a few more seconds before the video started. It could have been that he had the end of the boom farther out from the load before he pick it up. That would cause the load to swing out as he picked it up.

I saw picker that got into high voltage once, besides blowing all the hyd lines and a tire, it welded at least one of the hyd cylinders.

It seemed like the base was angled away from the weight and limited by the trees. The swing seemed to be part of the movement method. It should have probably been worked differently.

Well being a crane operator for 10 years......my thoughts.
I can tell you the operator had no clue as to how much that weighed.
Also I can see that the house was moving freely so he did not have the brake set.
And I would say that after he hit the power line the first time he had a mechanical failure because the time that it took for that crane to go over, a good operator would have cabeled out fast enough and got himself out of trouble. A crane like that is capable of at least 50 feet per minute on a 2 part line

On another note watch the operators cabin when the crane hits the ground, it spun fast enough to wip the windshield out..imagine what happen to the operator if he didn't have on his seat belt.
