Buying Advice Why did you buy a John Deere?

For me, it was entirely financial. I set out to by Orange, and was blown away at the cost difference between where the Kubota dealer was "insisting" to put me versus what I could get for a Deere. I have to admit that I lucked out in terms of timing because I was able to leverage the "buy any two attachments with a 2520 and get a $2500 rebate" offer on top of 0% APR. The Kubota dealer was off by over $10k with the same options.

I am in need of some help. Deep down inside I really want to buy a John Deere tractor, but I feel that I can get so much more power with all the options for a lot less by going with Kioti. Please tell me why I should go with a John Deere?

For me the dealer was great to work with, even matched the lesser price of equivalent sized different brand tractors, and the years of good service and reviews the 790 had.

AND the fact I'm pretty sure there will be a JD dealer close by from inbetween now and when I retire. I'm a buy it once, maintain it, rebuild it kinda person.....

The "fringe benfit" I got was a good dealer to work with.

At a very early age I was enamored with tractors. The John Deeres then and now were just a better all around product. When someone would say "you pay for the paint" I always thought to myself you get what you pay for....(now I just say it).

I agree, there's much more to a tractor than a spec sheet, and that's where they shine for me. I also find it amazing how some people claim they are so much more, I find them very similar if not the same to a comparable model of any other brand.

several reasons:

the first tractor I ever drove was a a John Deere: my grandfather owned a 316 to mow the grass at his business. I imprinted at a young age.

heritage: Deere is really the only manufacturer that has kept the same name over the years. many farmers were sold on Deere loyalty after buying the original two cylinder tractors and not being able to wear them out.

engineering: based on other machines I have seen, from garden tractors to row crop tractors, there is nothing better engineered or easier to use. John Deere's engineering department has long been a thing of genius, starting with John Deere himself. world's first self-scouring plow. two cylinder tractors that run for days on end and sip fuel. electrohydrualic hitch controls on the rear fender. autoconnect decks. combines with a fridge in the cab. nothing compares, in my opinion.

longevity: they simply last. parts are available long after the initial sale. sure stuff breaks over the years, but with a little mechanical knowledge you can keep them going. my 345 has almost 2000 hours on it, sure I've fixed a bunch of stuff but it's long been paid for and cuts grass and tills like new and it's 15 years old. parts are expensive but at some point on the bell curve they offset the cost of buying a new machine every few years.

they look good in a field: you don't see much of anything red, blue or orange growing in a field.

I am brand loyal, I laugh when I see a commercial where a guy dressed like a grizzled old farmer goes "I BEEN FARMIN 30 YEARS AND I WON'T FARM WITH NOTHIN' BUT A MONTANA!" and I walk outside and my 71 year old John Deere B starts with one turn of the flywheel and works the rest of the day.

I tried hard to buy another brand this time. Shopped hard and just couldn't find anything over the green. My 7 th one.
