Buying Advice Why did you buy a John Deere?

/ Why did you buy a John Deere? #31
It overheated and locked up, so after pulling it apart it was determined not to be operator/owner neglect or abuse. The tractor was out of warranty, but John Deere agreed to replace the engine.

The 2305 was discontinued, so the dealer is rebuilding it. The Shop Foreman has been really good to work with, but he said that parts he ordered were just not available now and JD couldn't tell him when they would be shipped.

From the looks of their lot and machines waiting for repair, they certainly are busy, but that is not the reason for delay.

John Deere is the most widely used machine in this area with more machines sold, so I don't know if you can draw any conclusions from the number of broken machines or high number of used units.

Anyone who has followed my posts knows this tractor has spent a LOT of time in the shop and I am inclined to believe it just may be one of those lemons that slips by every manufacturer.

As stated previously, I still like and continue to recommend Deere when looking at tractors. My wife however probably won't allow another green tractor anywhere near her.

If its possible lemon, after the rebuilt see what your dealer would give you on trade toward a new model. Just a thought.:confused3:

this is my first reply on this board. I've been doing a lot of reading to learn a bit about the ins and outs of the sub-compact tractors. Great place to learn for sure.

I'm waiting impatiently for my new JD 1026R to come in, and I chose JD over a couple of other manufacturers, I simply chose the best in the industry.
I'm an avid bass fisherman and a cigar lover, so if you ask me what brand of bass boat I use or what cigars I smoke, well my answers would be: Ranger boats and Cuban cigars.... It's simple, IMO I chose the best sub-compact tractor out there . It will be more than I need for my 2.55 acre property maintenance and landscaping projects.

Sounds like you have a good dealer, it's good that they went to bat for you. Hopefully, after this your tractor will be trouble free.

Yes, we lucky and are very pleased with the dealership.

I really like the 1026R and would love to trade it in on one, but my wife is the one who is in charge of Grounds Maintenance, so she runs the BX2660 and 2305 and has informed me if we trade, it will be for another BX.:)

Now if we could figure out a way to mow the yards with that 4720, she really like that one.

How far out of warranty are you? I'm curious because my tractor warranty is also out, and being in the shop for over a month it probably means it's going to be expensive.

I would like it if Deere would just give me a credit for a new one.

I'd like to know as well. I had a major failure with my first 2305, 190 hours but out of warranty. Its been paid for and all, I'm just curious.

Check your messages; don't want any blow back on the dealer.

I guess my first john deere found me, it was given to me by my god father nearly thirty years ago. I found it in the lawn, my kids now are play with it. I think its about done, the fel is gone as is the front axle. Not bad for a thirty year old deere.

FYI thats the same uncle who said to me "The only reason I bought a Ford tractor was to remind me how much I love my Deere."

Why did I buy green?

the old
I was raised around concrete business, heavy construction, farming. We had many brands of equipment: Deere, MF, Ford, Deutz, Cat and more. That was a few years back - more than I like to admit. :) There was a fleet of Deere 450 loaders and dozers, 690 excavators, CAT D8 & D7 and other CAT loaders that I can't remember. The tractor line-up included various Ford thousand series, MF 1805, smaller MF that I can't remember, Deere 4010, 4020, 5020, 45 combines, MF combines and on and on. While the other brands we had at the time have caught up significantly with Deere... at the time, it was so painfully obvious how superior the Deere equipment was to everything else except maybe the CATs. So I admit I have some bias. Nobody turned down an opportunity to operate the 4020. The huge heavy 5020 with cab was pretty much mine to run for several of my teenage years. None of the Deere machines ever gave us much trouble. I can't say that I'd ever even heard of Kubota back then. I remember, even back then, Deere parts were available for anything you could think of. Ford and MF, not so much. How useful is a tractor or implement when you can't get parts? We fabricated some that we couldn't get. My memories of the MF and Ford equipment is universally negative because the Deere counterparts were so superior.

the new
Now, decades later, college degree and desk job, I looked around briefly at options for a SCUT to ease the work we do in the yard. The 1026R TLB makes my decision so easy. Biased as I am, if I had been shopping during the days of the 2305, I might have spent more time on the decision. The 2305 needed some redesign! The green dealer I went to had a comparable current model Kubota on the lot which made my decision even easier.

The 48-month 0% deal made it even easier.

Thinking back to the time I spent on the Fords and MF's of the day, gawd how I hated those tractors!

Resale/retained value in 10-20 years. Company financial long term security. Outstanding parts counter service. Ergonomics are functionality are good. Tradition of using JD in the family since 1954. Also operating JD equipment is a subject to banter over with inlaws , friends and neighbors.
