Talked to a dealer on this subject to-day, the reason he stated was safety, if the loader needs to be left in a raised position it is easier to fit a ram clamp with the cylinder installed with the rod end downwards.
While I don't disagree that it would easier to access the rod end if it is lower to the ground when extended and that there might be cases where that is necessary/desirable, I doubt that is the motivation for designing the loader that way.
It probably has a lot more to do with other sub assemblies, clearances around the rod and cylinder, sequence of assembly & co$t. IOW it ain't just about the cylinder's orientation.
With all due respect I think your dealer is rationalizing an attribute as a "feature" that he doesn't have any more idea about than we do.
