why do little tractors have big prices? /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif I've been searching for 6 months and have yet to find anything decent that I can afford.
Why do tractors cost more in New England?

Here in my area of CT most towns have a three acre minimum before one can even think of building. Even so, as someone stated, dealers have to make a profit and this I certainly agree. The problem is the "size" of the difference compared to even 300 miles away. I don't find it worth arguing when the difference is several hundred, but 8,000? Come on now. If the dealer who was 8 grand less claims he is making a profit, waht is wrong woth the picture?
Yeah, 'gone' is right--you folks are forgetting about northern New England. Maine is a poor state, except along the coast. Once you get past the part that's a suburb of Boston, New Hampshire is, too. Vermont is mostly poor, though there are some rich parts. And Maine has the lowest population density of any state east of the Mississippi. Maine is poor and country. But we pay Boston-suburb prices for tractors.
I'd expect high prices near Portland--Maine's biggest city, and a place where housing prices are high and lot sizes are low. But the lowest quote I've found on a Kubota was at the dealer nearest the city. The higher bids were inland.
As for not selling many tractors, that may be, but all three dealers I've visited had at least 50 tractors on their lots, and lots more in crates.
As a transplanted southerner, I've got to admit that there's a certain "coldness" to folks up this way (that goes for the weather, too /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif). I've lived in my small town for about ten years now and still feel like a stranger when I go into the hardware store, even though I've been in there probably two, three hundred times over the years. Folks up here aren't mean, but they aren't friendly, either.

Well the last time I was in Boston a waitress came up to take my breakfast order and I greeted her with a nice Indiana "hello and how are you doing" she responded with something like "do you know what you want yet?" and didn't bother to accept me as a person, just a customer. On another business trip a guy pushed his way into a very crowded elevator with a big suitcase hitting several people in the process. He got off at the next floor and I said to the guy next to me "he must be from New York City." The guy asked why and I responded with "New Yorkers are the only people who can make people from Boston look friendly" . . . everyone on the elevator laughed.
I didn't put smilies because I didn't think it was necessary to justify a true statement with a conditional smiley that makes people think I meant less than I said. I did not say ALL people in New England are mean. I just said I have not found many who are not. I do have good friends up in Maine, I don't consider them mean. And so far nobody on TBN has thrown rocks at me, but I suspect a few will come my way now! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I still think the dealers are just mean!

Bob i,m liking you already,! you realy kill me can't get off the floor /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif, one of my supers at work is from out that way ,nice guy. I also totaly agree with you most of the pepole just south of me are pushy dopes and they keep coming north, think you hate it you can go home,they come to me in my state,i have nowhere to go /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif. Time to move to Maine where my relitives are. I think the black flies drive them away!

Many of us have had similar experinces.
In fairness to our friends in new england its probably most accurate to describe the coolness as an urban versus rural issue.
People are not to freindly in most higly populated areas.
There just happen to be more of those places in MA than in AR.
Most folks in chicago and LA will not win awards for making you feel welcome.
