Why isn\'t there a horn on the BX tractors?

I've searched the old posts but can't find anything on this topic. It puzzles me why a tractor doesn't have a horn. My BX23 has ROPS, seatbelt, an engine cutout switch when the PTO is engaged, etc. But no horn. Often I'm running the tractor and need to alert someone that I need their attention. Safety first but no horn.....anyone else find this odd?

Nope, never heard of a horn on a tractor myself. Never gave it a thought either.

Sounds like a project to complete and post in "customization"!!! Happiness is a new project for or with your tractor!

My old B6100 has a horn. Sounds like a sensible thing to have. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Almost every gray market tractor I have seen has a horn; or can tell one was once there. Most European countries require one for on road use. Not required in US. I have never really found the need for one either.

I agree 100% i just bought a M105 and i could not believe it did not have a horn.I will be putting one on it and a audible alarm on the parking brake. It is so easy to drive off with the brake on and before you know it it will be used up.

My owners manual for the L3130 shows a horn as an accessory.

Id like a horn, it would be neat.

Actually, I wonder why there isn't a backup alarm on tractors????

For a selection of add-on horns, you might try JC Whitney. Another option is one of those GMRS (?) handheld radios. I frequently take one out in the field so I can call somebody back in the house if I need 'em.

Personally, I'm glad my BX doesn't have a a plethora of stuff that I would never or rarely use. IMO, that stuff is great for aftermarket and serves to only jack up the price of the tractor if mandated by the .gov.

MDL: I'm with you 100% on this one. Many times I've wished I had a nice loud horn. Where there are tractors, there are often (always?) hazardous activities going on, and sometimes yelling "HEY!!" just doesn't cut it. When doing tree work I usually have a whistle around my neck for getting someone's attention without straining my vocal cords (and feeling like an idiot in the process). Yes, it might offend some, having to respond to the sound of a whistle, but it makes for a safer workplace. Maybe you could carry one too if you know you're going to be working around people. My whistle of choice is the Fox 40 Classic - no moving parts and man is it loud.

I have definitely seen references in Kubota literature to an optional horn for Grand L's, but can't speak for BX's. I'm going to look into it and see what parts are involved. Not sure that they would go to the trouble of having the button replace the center hub of the steering wheel, but that sure would be nice. If I find out anything I'll let you know.

And hats off to you for asking a perfectly reasonable question that has the potential for opening you up to some measure of derision. While I'm always open to suggestions, I ultimately do what makes sense to ME. For instance, I climb trees with two buckstraps so that when I come to an obstruction I put one of them over it and then the other, always protected. Some climbers might think I'm a sissy, but after 15 years of climbing at least I'm a live sissy /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I agree with you about the horn. I would like one, and am looking into adding one (one on my Gator too).

Another 'feature' I would like is a digital clock in the instrument panel, as well as one on my lawn/garden tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif I buy cheap ones and stick them on (haven't worn a watch in 30 years).
