Why no Cub Luv?

Scooby -

I've seen the lack of Cub luv for years now. Most of it is ignorant uneducated opinions. (at least in my opinion)
Now Cub has made some poor choices in the past, jumping around with different engine manufacturers, and having issues with a few different product series....but having said that I've owned a LOT of Cub products since 1995 and never had any notable issues.
For your application, I really liked the GT3200, with the big Kohler Command, PS, hydraulics, & the diff lock.....I've used the diff lock numerous times on several of my tractors, and find it very very handy.
I gave my GT3200 to my dad, but it's just overkill for his yard and he's already got another rider....it's a 2005/06 with under 300 hours, with mower and power angle front blade, so he wants to sell it......want to take a trip down to Massachusetts??!

I've had a GT2554 for a few years and about 80 hours on it. It is the hardest thing to keep blades tight on that I've ever had. I use a cheater to crank them on with.

The deck is lighter than I'd like.
No weight in the rear. (I need to figure out how to add weight, there doesn't see to be an obvious good way to do so..)

Runs great, starts great.

I'm thinking I wish I'd have bought a zero turn that has the blades in front so you can lift the blades to clean, change them without having to lift the tractor or remove the deck.. Seems, I'm always lifting the silly thing..

I bought a new 1863 with a 54in deck and just turned 2400 hrs on it today. Also have a 3225 with a 60in deck. It was one of the first ones out as the pto clutch wasn`t enclosed in the can like the replacement was. It had 87hrs on it when I got it and now has 1300 hrs. I have 10 acres to mow. If I could buy another new 1863 --IF. The 3225 is , well Not .. Although when all is working there is no mower can do a better job mowing. Never had any kind of cracks or breaks on either or problems with hydrostats . the 3225 has had many problems mostly electrical plus front and rear seals on the crank and the oil filter refuses to seat- tried all brands but cc does better. If buying a new one it would be another 3000 series , And do you think they will come out with a 10ft deck if so I`m ready!!

My father-in-law bought a 20hp version Cub right about the time MTD took over. I think the only change that had been made was they added a "by MTD" decal to the Cub products. Anyhow, his tractor was a model that could have been ordered with a 3 pt hitch (would have been nice if he did), it has full power everything and is a superb piece of equipment. The 60" deck is heavier built than most Rear finish mowers you see today. (I wish I could remember the model) It's about 16 to 17 years old and cuts better than the commercial ZTR Cub (50") that he ordered through TSC a couple years ago.

He's been happy with the zero-turn, he just wishes the deck was as well-built and provided as nice a cut as his older model cub.

For my own needs, I had been shopping for something to help out with our workload around here. (That's why I've been eye-balling the Ingersolls). Anyhow, I found something as well built as the earlier cubs... (or close to it anyway):

i guess, i myself am guilty of no cub luv:(

I was leaning towards a 2554, but the dealer didnt have one but had one on order, eta a week or 2. Price was $5900 +Tax. But it didnt have a diff lock which is pretty important to me at my new property (quite steep)

Ingersoll replied to ,my email, and suggested i drive to maine to see one:mad::mad: yeah right:mad:

then i got wind of a x540. Had a look at it. 100hrs and its immaculate:DHydraulic steering and lift.Liquid cooled.Had diff lock. And above all, $500 less than a 2554:D so i jumped on it:D

I think i did alright as the deere dealer said he'd be asking 7200 for it:D

thanks again for all the replies. I do honestly think that Cub is a good machine just couldnt pass up this deal.
.
ill try and throw up a thread on the deere forum about my new baby when i get it tomorrow

You did well if you got a 100hr old JD X540 for $5500. A new one is $7599, so that dealer quoting $7200 is about as good as you'd get new.

Well, the sad thing is that you used to be able to buy a nice new car for that not so many years ago.
