This was a great feature on the BX I had. Any shavings or particles would collect on the strainer and be removed from the hydro system when you cleaned it. I did not have a lot of these shavings in my BX but I had some. My new B2920 does not have the magnetic strainer...is it not needed due to two filters? Does one one the filters have some sort of magnetic feature (probably not). I am sure I will talk myself into a new, bigger or different tractor in a few years or before I get 400 hours on this machine but I still wish I had a strainer. Am I missing something or is it just not on this machine?

Yes a 2nd filter, one replaces the strainer. Everything gets trapped in either filter. Filter beats strainer.

I read somewhere that metal mesh filters are more prone to clogging because they can build up static electricity and 'crack' the oil, effectively baking it unto the strainer. So, in the long run they are counterproductive and can lead to serious oil starvation if they are not cleaned. I believe this is the reason they have been replaced in later tractors by throw away filters.
