Why aren't there more 10,000# trailers? What you described is what I want in 20 foot length.

This trailer 20 foot 10,000# is what I think I want. A PJ Trailer Buggy hauler (at the price of the first one I saw). Not sure of options.

They make them for the Canadian market for the simple reason that a 10,000 lb trailer puts you in cdl territory. Fairly common up here to find landscape trailers with a gvwr of 9990 lbs with two 5000 lb axles and 16" E rated tires.

Here's a few Fed DOT specs to help answer some questions:
10,001 - 26,000 lbs:
Drivers License (no CDL required)
Medical Certificate
Legal/trade name on Vehicle with DOT #
Annual Inspection
Insurance on file
Shipping papers if for hire or hauling hazmat

All the above applies to moves INVOLVED IN COMMERCE

If it is a personal move, not involved in commerce then none of the above applies except drivers license.

26,001 lbs & up:

CDL
Medical Cert
legal name/DOT on cab
Annual inspection
Insurance on file
IFTA (International Fuel Tax Agreement) decal (based on actual gross not GVWR)
IRP (International Registration Plan) (if operating in 2 or more jurisdictions)
Shipping papers (if for hire)

There are OTHER credentials required by each state that may affect you. For instance in KY if over 60,000lbs you must pay usage tax.
check each state for specifics. That's THE ONLY way you will know for sure and I recommend contacting each states Vehicle Enforcement as well for specifics about weight tolerances and load securement.

Don't forget UCR (Unified Carrier Registration) must be paid up before travel for any move involved in commerce.

Yes...and to take it one step further...if you haul your personal show tractor to the fair and win 3rd place and get $60, you are now involved in commerce and need a DOT, UCR, MC authority and so on.

Best bet is to visit the FMCSA web site and FMSCA SAFER to determine when you need what credentials FEDERALLY...Remember though, you still have to contact each state.
there are servi e provixers out tbere that claim to know all this for you...they don't.

When I built my dump trailer I decided on one axle because it let me use the axle wheel bearings as the pivot point.

With two axles the dump pivot would require more hardware including a pivot or hinge.

I was asked to post pictures of the pivot point and how the box attaches to the tongue...

I built the 5x8 box dump trailer back around 1983... it uses a camper jack to life the box.

(Note: The first picture keeps posting upside down no matter how I post)
