I currently have a small Kioti tractor. Previously had a Kubota L3010. In the future (after much study of all the brands and models on this board) I hope to find a good low hour 4500 4WD w/Ags. It looks like a great tractor and I hope I can find a good deal on one. I won't need to upgrade for a season or two. But the thing I noticed was they dropped the 4500 4WD for the 4530 4WD. Besides going to dry brakes, dry clutch and no sleeves on the cylinders what else did they cut back on? Or is there some good reason why I should look for a used 4530 and all these changes are better in some way? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Of the changes you mentioned, only the brakes changed to dry. The clutch and wet replaceable sleeves remain the same as on the 4500 4WD.

The 4530 4WD does offer advantages with semi-flat platform and side shift, increasing operator room and comfort.

Thank you for your reply. When I look on the web page 4530
I find that the clutch is described as " Dual dry with cerametallic lining ". Is this a wet clutch? I reviewed the page and found the wet sleeves mentioned in the description but it was left out of the engine spec's section. This definitely makes my interest in the 4530 go up a few notches, even with the dry brakes. I have a lot of steep hills and use the brakes a lot. Once again, thank you for your reply.

wet sleeves pertain to the engine and I believe that is fairly standard on most tractors these days. It appears the clutch is dry. If you live on hilly terrain I would give the brakes more consideration. I have the 6500 with the wet disc brakes and I wouldn't trade them for anything. Wet disc brakes stay cooler and operate more consistently under heavy use.

You would think wet sleeves would be common but I am finding just the opposite. Most manufacturers are going to no sleeves and you have to bore the block if something happens to a cylinder. I am in the process of rebuilding a small Kioti now and it has dry sleeves. It is a pain in the rear too. I checked and all of the new Kiotis have no sleeves and I was told that was the trend these days. I have never rebuilt an engine with wet sleeves but it is my understanding that most come pre-finished so you could do a repair without have to do a total breakdown of the tractor and pull the block.

That's unfortunate if they are going to dry sleeve. More of a disposable design. Wet sleeve would definitely be favorable for a rebuild. It's my undestanding that you can bore the sleeves a time or two and then replace them if they are too thin for tolerances.

Thanks for correcting me on this.

The clutch on the 4530 4wd is dry, as it was on the 4500 4WD.

I think you may be right on the wet sleeves. I have never done one though. I was originally told that the sleeve inserts on mine would come pre-finished but they did not. They were too thin to pre-finish. I am so strapped for time right now I have found a place that will bore the engine while it is in the tractor and I still can't find time to get it done. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Oh well, maybe one of these days I will find that 4530 that I now want.
