Why we live in the country

If you used the term Wink Tink in Tombstone you would be laughed out of town if not hung by the vigilantes.

Please consult Etiquette in Society, in Business, in Politics, and at Home by Emily Post. Although she listed "drain the lizard" as an alternative to "going #1" in the first edition of that book (1922), only "going #1" and "winky tink" have been listed in subsequent editions.:D

I had an uncle refer to #1 as going to drain the radiator. I kinda started saying that as well. Oh I need to go drain my radiator right now. No Really I do. Darn Coffee.

I like living in the country because it gives my kids a chance to be kids. They can get outside and go to the woods where their imagination can make for an adventurous day. It also lends more opportunities to teach/model a good work ethic.

We moved to the country over 35 yrs. ago..We had lived in two different subdivisions prior to buying our farm and moving, one was on a nice lake with over 2 acres but neighbors were still a problem.

I was traveling most of the week and I would fly in on Fridays and couldn't wait to get home and play ball with my young son ...as soon as I would change clothes and we would go in the back yard...here came the neighbors...the men..and they would show up with the beer and wanted to party...All I wanted to do was play ballw with my son or go out in our boat and be with my wife....Never once were we able to do that...

Looking back now I am so glad that we bought our farm with our own lake and moved away from the crowd...life was and is good. Don't get me wrong, I liked the neighbors and they meant well but they used no discretion....they would just intrude on whatever activity we had going on in our own backyard and we wanted to be gracious so we just stopped what we were doing since it was apparant they did not want to join in on any activity...

I guess we just opted to have and enjoy our privacy and the tranquility of the farm..It was a good move for us..

I offer this only as a public service. Again referring to the 1922 edition of Emily Post's classic (p. 43), the appropriate term in polite society is "backdoor breeze." ;)

I will never feel bad about hijacking a thread again.:laughing::laughing:

And, anyway, "I will backdoor breeze in your general direction" just doesn't quite have the impact. Even with an outrageous French accent.

I thought that members might benefit from my "expertise" in this area. Modesty and confidentiality agreements prevent me listing the various heads of state, business leaders, etc. that I have advised on these matters.;)
