Ihave a friend with a pet deer A BUCK. Nice 8 ' fences and a run in . He can be very pleasant or a total pain in the ***. These creatures are not pets . I watched that buck knock him down , and walk away . No doubt he could have done more damage .

Reminds me of something that happened to me. I was driving down a back road on the way home (Northern Neck, VA) and as I came around the corner there was a buck standing in the middle of the road. I slowed down and stopped about 50 feet from him and he just stood there and looked at me. This was about 3 in the afternoon. I moved up a bit to scare him off and he put his head down and charged my jeep cherokee head-on. He was a big buck, a six pointer and his impact broke a couple of the plastic pieces above the bumper. That wasn't enough, he then backed off about 20 feet, turned and charged the drivers side door (me!) and hit the door, glass and mirror. Fortunately he didn't break the glass but he did crack the mirror and left a 2 foot white streak and a little crease down the side of the jeep. Scared the crap out of me. He then calmly walked off behind the jeep and into the woods. Wish I could have had a video of it. No one around here believes it except my son who was sitting in the passenger seat

This is what can happen if you have a "pet" buck deer.

I wondered if this was authentic. Snopes says maybe.

snopes.com: Roped Deer

if you go over there and read the rest of the story, it lends a little more credence to it, in that he didn't really want to talk about doing it for a while at least locally, because of worry about running into trouble with the law, and also being though of of doing something pretty stupid.

European deer is much smaller than American white tale. It is more like a large dog size. Once I worked at a grain elevator and they had one of those little bucks there as a pet. It was so cute but in reality it was a mean little SOB. You wouldn't come inside of his run. He would hit you instantly. He was too small to knock you over but he could bruise you pretty bad. I know that because one of my colleague entered his run to pet him and give him a carrot and regretted the decision very shortly after.
