Tires Wider steer tires for 3000-20 series

Got a spec and a quote from my dealer. Can't believe that they want $150ea for a 15x8 steel wheel!

OE LVA 13635 15x7 with 2" offset. So we MOL have 5.5" from the hub face to back of wheel

LVA 13633 15x8 with .630" offset so we have 4.630" (4-5/8)

AA64428 15x8 with 1.125" offset so we have 5.125"

From the rubber perspective even though tires seldom measure what they state:

8.5" OE: 4.25" + 2"= 6.250"

10.5" 5.25" + .630"= 5.880"

10.5" 5.25 + 1.125= 6.375"

From an overall width perspective, the .630" offset should put me 5.26" wider (4" added tire width plus 1.26" offset change.

The 1.125" wheels should widen me by 3.75" (4" tire width - 2.50" less offset)

I'm leaning toward the 1.125" wheels.

I needed to change my front wheels when one rotted out as previous owner had filled them with calcium.

One only rim was to cost me over $400. (for a used rim!)

After a lot of research, thanks to TBM archives, I learned that measuring outside (total diameter) was how to determine tire/wheel sizing.

I was fortunate to find on EBay a pair of new surplus rear mounted rims off of a garden tractor that had the correct hole spacing and proper outer diameter that I needed.

Long story short, they are on their 3rd year if service with no problems at all other than the steering being a bit heavier in that they are wider footprint but the plus is that I don't sink in mud and snow as much as before.

Being a bit lighter weight rims I did weld the centers from the old origional rims to thicken or 'back up' the lighter new ones.

Oh, and the new 'surplus' rims only set me back $50. (plus shipping) for the pair! (not $400) plus my old tires were about due to be changed.
