I've been shopping for a new flail mower in the 72" range and was looking thru a catalog and found one I was interested in buying, according to the book it's rated for 15-40 hp tractors. When I called the local dealer he told me the "general" rule of thumb he goes by is 5 pto hp per foot. Well the catalog dosen't state it one way or the other, I assumed that it's engine hp.

He says a 72" would probably "work" my tractor and that I should go no bigger then 60". The reason for this purchase is because I do "weekend" mowing and I just a new customer with approx. 11 acres to mow twice a year and figured 6' would make the mowing alittle quicker compared to a 5' and it will have "Y" blades not hammers.

My tractor is 30 hp, 23 pto, do you think that a 72" will overwelm my tractor?

Dirthauler:

I have a NH TC29DA which "specs out" very closely to your CK30. The Sales & Marketing literature for NH indicates that the "29" can run a 71" flail mower (of course the NH brand). I would think that you would be able to handle the 72"'er especially when that mower's catalog states it's "rated" HP ranges. Jay
