Wife drove tractor this afternoon.

I let my wife drive the tractor all the time.
Anytime I need it moved somewhere I get her to do it.
Anytime I need to change an implement I get her to drive the tractor.
She is better at backing up to implements than I am.

But I'm in a wheelchair and its easier to let her drive it than for
me to be getting off and on the tractor multiple times.
I take off the implement and hook up another one
while she sits on the tractor. goes a lot easier that way.

I don't have to worry about her taking it from me.
She has no aspirations of playing farmer.

I would love to have my wife alive again. I know she'd be on the tractor every chance she got, and she'd be welcome to.

My wife grew up on a farm. She was daughter #11 (of 12) There were 2 sons. They both left for the Navy as soon as the Navy would take them. She bacame her dads "other son". (All the rest of the girls didn't like farm life, nor were they willing to get dirty) She knew how to do most anything a tractor needs to do on a farm when we met. If I need an operator, she's always there.

But- She loves traditional roles. She does the "womans work" in and around the house. I do the "mans chores". When I need her to run a tractor or something simular, she always acts like she needs my tutoring before she can do it. I know better. She can probably teach me a few new tricks.

She is also aware of the fact that we're scaling back the work load. No more cows. No more hayin'. No more fences to build. Not nearly as much tractor work going on. When there is something to do, it's all mine.

I don't mess with her kitchen, she doesn't mess with my shop/tractor/barn/garden/ect.

In my life, I've made my share of mistakes. But I sure did a bang-up job of picking a wife! Got a good one!

Mine is too scared to drive anyting but her car...it's a pity too, cause I think if she could get over her fears, she might find it fun. She's perfectly capable, just scared.........guess I'm "safe" as far as losing my tractor, but there are times I could use the help.........

Ralph sorry your shoulder is acting up. Don't think a little seat time for the wife will hurt a thing.

Sunday I was working out in the pole barn, it was a beautiful day, and my wife waltzed out and started standing around. At 1st I kinda went on with what I was doing and then finally broke down and asked what? Rose said maybe I could teach her to drive Blue Thunder..... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif So I helped her crawl up to the platform, gave her a quick lesson, made sure she buckled her seatbelt, said a quick prayer and turned her loose on the property. She headed up behind the barn and I heard the RPMs increase so I went back to work.

Heard her come back around the corner about 20 minutes later. She even had the daily newspaper under her arm and a smile from ear to ear. Hope I didn't mess up to bad....

My wife used to have me convinced she was scared of a few things. Guns. She would act like they were about to blow up when one was around. Then there was a robbery in the parking lot where she works. She asked for a gun to carry with her, and "lessons" on shooting. I married Annie Oakley. She wasn't one bit afraid.

Then it was computers. She acted intimidated (like so many ADULTS do) But when she found out that her and our daughter could send pictures back and forth, those fears subsided.

Then I figured her out. I THOUGHT she might be using these "fears" to keep from doing things she'd rather I'd be doing.

NOPE!

She was "playing the game". Letting me THINK she needed me to do all these things she was "too weak" to do, as a member of the fairer sex. She was just stroking my ego without my knowing.

She ain't afraid of ANYTHING, muchless me.

Mine grew up driving an AC WD-45 with narrow front. Compared to that, the DX29 is child's play for her, but she misses the gearshift.
