Wild boom and swing on BH

Was digging a hole tonight with the BH and I thought of something that may help. I notice if my stablizers aren't planted firmly, and sometimes even the bucket not having the teeth dug in, causes the movement of the boom to shake the tractor more. My boom still jerks plenty, but I don't feel it much in my seat if I am firmly planted when digging. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have found that the more I use the BH the "softer" my hands tend to be on the controls. Particularly on the boom and swing, "less is more." /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

...also avoids unnecessary and possibly harmful stresses on both the BH and tractor frame.

I found that 1,800 RPM's is perfect for my machine and me. I can swing and boom in slow motion with no problems at all. It's all in the wrist. G

Funny you should say that...
1500 makes things nice and smooth, 2000 a little too quick. 1800 is a good compromise. And yes, I'm finding it harder to make mistakes (not that I try!) as I rack up hours.

I think you will find most any backhoe or backhoe alike machines to have fast boom/swing functions. As you know the boom and swing have little strength for digging but have a large effect on the time it takes to actually move soil from the hole to the spoil pile, aka cycle time. I'd bet over 50% of backhoe work is spent going from dig point to dump point.
People for whom backhoe time is money will of course want the fastest boom functions they can control so the manufacturers follow suit.

I may be a little older, and I'm certainly not rushed for time so I normally use my backhoe at 1500 RPM. Suits me fine. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
