BUT, I'd really look at those EVDO sites to see if someone has a configuration like yours, already working. That way your not trail blazing to the unknown.

PCMCIA (a.k.a. cardbus) is essentially the same as a desktop's PCI port. At work we sometimes build special purpose PCMCIA cards and using inexpensive PCMCIA adapter cards connect them to desktops for software development. A quick web search will find a large number of vendors.

At the end of the day, I have made very little progress since my final posting.

Something you need to know about satellite, though, is that many people are not happy with its performance. There is 'latency' which makes some programs stop to function, or function poorly.
